I leave for a trip tomorrow so had to make something today.
Local Alaskan stone, first one ive ever found like it.. looks like a dandelion / chrysanthemum. Been nagging at me all winter to cab it.

The only flower rock I have is rose quartz. How boring is that? We had a couple of cores from Richardson's in Oregon. Hmmm...it would be pretty easy to turn that round shape into a flower shape using the carving wheel. Still kinda boring, so I took an existing lemon quartz oval and cut it down to a smaller size and reversed the angle of the girdle. End result using 8" cabbing machine for all work except making the recess for mounting the yellow center.

taylor You have done justice to both using a flower named stone and making a flower from it. Love your creativity and the flower is beautiful. Reminds me of a Cone Flower or Daisy.

Jeez taylor . When I first started reading your post I thought "rose quartz, why didn't I think of that?" Then I threw in the towel after I saw the final result. Very nice work!

Okay, my turn, a last minute entry. Skykomish River poppy jasper, very rare, allegedly only one boulder found in the river. I was blessed to find the dealer who sold it and get a few slabs. Slab and preform. It's really hard to catch the metallic look of the hematite with a phone camera, the outside lighting worked the best for that and the polish. This one shows the red poppies in the hematite the best. And the indoors pic, probably the best overall. About 20x40mm

I have used polarizing sheets taped over the camera on my phone or just hold a cross polarizing filter over the lens to cut the glare. It is a hassle to do and keep the tape or filter out of the pic but definitely helps with picture quality.

Great entry Rockoonz and we get to see something new, too. WIN! Yes, I have a polarizing filter on my camera for outside pictures. Works great!
