Well, it's been awhile since we lost Bailey, our other baby kitten. I guess, we've healed enough to get another. Another stray cat had kittens in our yard (like Bailey's mother). (No, we don't have a problem here.) They were so quiet, we didn't notice until they were about 5 weeks old. They had taken up residence in our shed. One corner is rotted out enough that Mom could get in. I have been wanting an orange tabby for a long time. She had 2. My granddaughter nabbed one of them. Here he is shortly after capture last Sunday, Mother's day. He was such a dirty little thing! We got him/it at the right age. He/it wasn't afraid of humans, yet. He didn't hiss or fight. That came later when it was bath time. We kept it in a carrier until we could get a cage for him the next day. That night, he cried all night missing his Mom and wanting to fill his belly up AGAIN. He's been eating every few hours since we got him. We tried the bottle first, not knowing his age, but after he immediately bit the nipple off, we offered him some soft food mixed with kitten milk. Now he's just eating soft kitten food. He loves his little kitty condo/cage. Sure beats the dirty shed! We set it up with toys and a bed. He has a little tin with litter which he took right to, thank goodness. His personality began coming out right away. He loves his people but he's a real pisser with catitude! We finally settled on the name Sid whether male or female because he thinks he's so vicious. LOL! He's really daring. I keep saying "he" because 80% of orange tabby cats are males. He looks like a she, but it's still too hard to tell. He's gotta used to having rocks around. At least he thinks they smell good. He watched a video game on the computer for a long time until he fell asleep. My daughter works as a vet tech, so I'll be bringing him in there to test for feline aids and leukemia. If those are good, we'll be getting the shots, then sterilization. He seems really healthy. Knock on wood. So far, him and Cat just ignore each other. I hope they get along. We're hoping the kitten will be good company for Cat who is an old guy now. I could have posted a lot more pics, but I curtailed myself. We're tickled to death to have him- needless to say. (I was going to call Animal Control for the rest of the litter and Mom, but she had moved them and we don't know where.) ------------------------------------------ Cat and Sid are taking their time, but doing well. Sid likes to chase Cat around. He tried to bat him in the face, but poor old patient Cat just walks away. He's such a good cat. The vet said to keep them apart because Sid hasn't been tested for disease, yet. But, he goes outside to use the giant kitty box, so we figure he's already been exposed to plenty. Another 2 weeks and Sid will get tested then shots.

So glad to see him cleaned up and enjoying the inside life. Doesn't take long for them to show their personality, a kitten's got to play! Love watching them practice their skills. Thanks for sharing!
ETA: love the name Sid.

AWWW...he's so cute! Both of our boys passed away in the last 18 months after having nice long lives of 20 and 18 years. They were our first kids and we still miss them terribly. The basement was their main hangout and after George passed away we mostly avoided going down there as it was depressing. My wife is glad that we have gotten into tumbling so much and have everything down there now as she said it's not so sad down there. I hope he is healthy and everything works out for you!

Al Aww, sorry. We lost our Jasmine before Cat adopted us. I thought I would never get another. She was 25. Bailey was another stray's kitten. He was unhealthy from the git go, but we didn't know it. Losing him was very, very hard. He was such a good kitten.

I lost 3 mature over the last 5 years that had been with me since kittenhood (15-25 years). I still expect to see them in their favorite places. Can't replace them - each has a unique personality - but I'm trying to talk myself into a visit to the Humane society and maybe adopting an older lap warmer.

I hope you do get another older lap warmer. Jazz was 6 when we adopted her at the SPCA. Well, more like she adopted us.

Really cute kitten, it will be really beautiful when she grows up !We lost our Calico a while back after 21 years. The first time I took it up to my fishing shack on the Miss. river my buddies pitched a fit about having a cat around until they found out it liked to play fetch ----- for hours on end ! They would bring an extra piece of steak for it on Saturday night 1

Awww, so sweet!! Nothing cuter than a little kitten! (By the way, if it is a common occurrence that stray cats have kittens in your yard, have you ever considered having them spayed? It would be better first of all for the cat, not just for you.)
Oh and I love the name! We named our cat "Monster" in a much similar manner, haha! He's a beast! :-P Hopefully yours grows up to be a bit more civilized.

My BIL is more in the country. They have feral cats. He does trap, spay/neuter and release. My city does not do that. We do have Animal Control. They will capture and offer domestic animals for adoption at reasonable prices. They put the ferals down. I'm waiting for Animal Control to capture the mom, but these stray and/or feral cats are pretty wiley. My cat, Cat, avoided capture for years before we got him. He went from house to house and finally settled here.

So cute. I love kittens. Especially when they gently use their tiny claws to knead your arm.

So cute. I love kittens. Especially when they gently use their tiny claws to knead your arm. We're trying to discourage that. As cute as it is, it isn't as cute when they have big giant claws and want to knead you during the night. OUCH!
