I had a piece of lace almost 1/2 inch thick with what would best be described as bubbles with an inward curve between two of them. The front of the slab had the bullseyes and the back didn't so I knew the pattern would change. There were no lines drawn, just start grinding and see what happens. The cab will end up close to this after a little more grinding to even out the dome which will be about 6mm.

This is the other side. It has a nice pattern, but the piece it was slabbed from has some slabs with the same pattern.

Yes, this is the rock I liked best from your other post. I had no idea that the other side could look so different. I think that the front side was the most creative use of the stone slab. It takes some imagination to end up with this result.
I am not as experienced and probably would have chosen the busier (back) side to showcase. I think that creativity could come more with time and experience.
Thanks for sharing!

One thing I've learned is studying the edges of the slab and taking an educated guess about what will happen when grinding the dome. I anticipated that the back pattern would get mixed in with the front pattern which I don't think would be attractive.
The cab is about 6mm in height and I left a 3mm or greater girdle. I could put a low dome on the back and make it a double domed cab which considering the difference in patterns, make it a novelty.
