Thought I would show a few works in progress , trying a couple things to keep the copper shiny . This stuff sure is difficult to show how bright the copper is . First one is more or less polished , still dopped . Slightly different angle , Next two are just flats that I am trying two different car waxes on to see if it helps , And a couple cutters waiting their turn , top one has a spot of silver about half way across and about a quarter inch down . Hopefully there is more inside . Thanks for lookin

Thanks for showing us your copper. I have a hard time resisting native copper. Where is this rough from?
Sometimes the metals do okay with just a dry buff or suede lap after everything else is polished. That won't help with oxidation over time, but a quick cleaning with a piece of deer hide will brighten them up again.

Those are really cool. I haven’t messed around too much with copper ore, but the stuff I brought home from the Keweenaw tended to be crumbly. Do you have that problem?

Copper fever hit us our first trip to the Keweenaw Peninsula a few years back when we found a couple specks on one of the mine piles . The next trip we brought back buckets of ore . If we saw copper or it detected it went in the bucket . That was before cutting and cabbing so we were just after the copper . Lot of copper in ugly rock but with a lot of time and work we have some really nice pieces . Wish we would have got more of the good cutting ore . Next year . Thanks for the deer hide tip , think I can handle that .

Yeah , I'm thinking high explosives are not the best way to get good lapidary material out of the ground . But there is good solid stuff to be found . The more wires running around in it usually holds things together fairly well . A gentle touch helps a lot also but it can still chip out . Planning on overloading the vehicle next year .
