Cab That Slab #5Mark what you think will create the best cabochon! This is one of two Jasper with Hematite slabs that I purchased from @hookedonrocks one month ago. My first reaction was "Wow!" followed soon after by "What am I going to do with that!?!" because there's so much to consider in the patterns and colors. After studying the other slab off and on, I finally marked what will be my first cab last week. I'm hoping that you'll provide some really good choices. The winner of the poll will have the option to start the next contest, and I will send the winner 2 or 3 pieces of rough opal that should cut good solid stones. The winner will also receive their cabochon selection sawed out and trimmed from this slab. Plus I'll find some other things to add, too. Contest Number 5 ends at 6:00 pm (1800) Pacific Time on Sunday, August 11. This slab is 5.5 x 4.625 inches (140 x 117 mm):

I had a hard time figuring where to do it and HOW to do it. I actually forgot just from last time. DOH! I wanted the brightly colored areas, too. Instead I went for some interesting contrast and rich color.
I have no idea the size of this cab.

Here's my first try at this. Not as good as rockjunquie or MsAli on the computer, but I did what I could. This is an awesome slab, so many colors!

Bumping because I added rulers to better estimate cab size and I sweetened the pot.

Bumping because I added rulers to better estimate cab size and I sweetened the pot. Your pot was already sweet

Bumping because I added rulers to better estimate cab size and I sweetened the pot. I just stickied it- sorry I didn't do it sooner. I forgot.

was showing a lady at work these slab pix and she says look there's a wolf! So I decided to play. Funny thing was once we zoomed up it looked like it's got a pig snout, so we're calling it a wig f1wxgl0d7ggatg5majs4

I just saw this and it probably belongs in the "What do you see in a stone" thread, but does anyone else see a fire breathing dragon...

I see the man. Looks like he's got a high collar like Elvis wore. I also see miket's dragon. Looks like Godzilla to me 👍

This area kept popping out at me. Feel it shows all of the amazing colors of the slab.

It’s just gorgeous. I am out of the workshop until September and my fingers are itching after just a week. How about here with a nice fat symmetrical teardrop?

Since I recently had my DNA tested through ancestry.com and found out that I am 46% Welsh, I have become enamored with the Welsh culture - I am even learning the language. The symbol of Wales (Cmyru in the native language) is the Draigh (Dragon). Thus, I see my Draigh ( albeit a slightly deranged looking version) in this lovely slab!

I guess I will take a shot. My first attempt came out to close to oldschoolrocker so I did this one.
