This is way early, I know, but I just made our reservations for the Pow-Wow this year. Last year we got skunked and couldn't find a room anywhere (I think it was September when I went to book), so this year is confirmed!
Hopefully, Tony catmandewe will be hosting the annual BBQ and we'll be able to hang out with y'all at the Idaho Rock Shop South Resort with it's 5-star dining.
Anybody else thinking about Q yet?

Yes we are having the Rockhound BBQ on Sat evening around 6. If you all want we can do a Friday night RTH get together also, completely up to you all but I am willing.

I have never been. My wife wants to go this year. When is it? Can we still book a room somewhere? Where should we stay? Thanks

When we were last there, we stayed at the Super 8 in Blythe. It's about 25 minutes away from Q, but we were very satisfied with the rooms. If we will get to Q this year, we'll go back to the same place. ETA: BBQ dates have not been posted yet. catmandewe what will be the day of the BBQ?

I would get there before the 18th if you want to shop the Pow-Wow. We're getting in town on Friday and leaving on Sunday. Choice stuff at the Pow-Wow will go fast, but there's always the vendors at Desert Gardens.

So, I am assuming that Tony's catmandewe BBQ is on Saturday, the 18th. Am I wrong?

You are correct aDave, the main bbq is on the 18th. If we want to have an RTH get together on Friday I am ok with that also. Tony

Pow Wow is a show that takes place during a short time at Quartzsite, and it is only offered for a few days. xpopress.com/show/profile/58/qia-powwow-gem-mineral-showTony catmandewe has his spot at Desert Gardens which runs for a longer period. He normally corresponds his BBQ at the end of the Pow Wow show, despite the fact he is at Desert Gardens. Arguably, many would consider Pow Wow as a "higher end" show. That's debatable on who you ask and what you're looking for. Just consider Pow Wow having a brief overlap inside of Desert Gardens. They are two different locations.

Desert Gardens show runs from Jan 1 to Feb 10, some arrive earlier and some leave later but that is the advertised show dates. There are about 200 vendors at this show from all over the world and you must have 90% rock related to be in the show.
QIA Pow-wow is a 5 day show that will run this year from Jan 15-19, there are about 100-150 vendors at this show.
There are several other shows and buildings/tents in town that sell rocks and any number of other items. One of the largest is Tyson Wells which is about half a mile east of Desert Gardens. Tyson Wells is a series of shorter 10 day shows, so it changes about every 10 days. You can buy anything there from rocks, crystals, socks, paint, skulls, belts, mexican pottery, native american items, t-shirts, gloves, kitchen utensils, tools, rv parts, chairs, etc. There are various other venues in town, some are permanent and some are temporary, kind of like a giant flea market spread out all through the town.
We usually host the BBQ on the saturday evening of the pow-wow because that is when we have most of the people in town that usually attend. (It is usually the third weekend in Jan.)
This year will be the 12th annual BBQ, it is open to anyone who likes rocks and wants to come, the first one had about 8 members there, this last year there were over 100 people in attendance. We provide hamburgers and hot dogs and the rest is pot luck. Bring something you are real good at or famous for! And if you cant do that then bring some chips or something. If you have chairs bring them, we provide a few but there are never enough. After the BBQ we will have a fire and we can sit around and visit.
Come say hi to all your friends you may or may not have met yet. Hope to see you there!!
Tony

Bring your world famous food and networking is off the charts. Tony won't ever say this, but bring some firewood to donate for the campfire. Even if it's just a few splits or whatever. The best conversations are around the campfire. Specially if orrum Bill is there. 😎👍

Hey thanks, I guess that's a compliment! LOL I am a hillbilly from the tall mountains, deep hollers, and smoky morning mists of Virginia's Appalachian mountains. Storytelling is a art and method of transferring information with a humorous twist. LOL. It helps you remember the important parts!!!

I went to some training years ago, and we were blessed by hearing from a champion story-teller. It was the best night I've ever spent while listening to this guy. I was in tears I was laughing so hard. You're right up there with this guy, and we loved meeting in Q a couple years ago. Hope we meet again this year.
