As title says, does anyone have a Lortone Model 40lb and use it regularly? My Lortone qt-12 just isn’t enough and I’ve acquired more stone to tumble and would like to knock it out in as few loads as possible.
TIA

Those things have to be picked up and moved around, 50 pounds of dead-weight persuaded me to stay with my 15 pound rotaries. Hope your back is in good shape. Henry

In my case it's the legs and the back that tend to fail me. They always say the legs are the 2nd thing to go, can't remember the first!

I’ve hauled back over 100lb of rock in a hiking pack before for a few miles. Haven’t done it since, lol. As I can see, nobody has this model online and even Lortone says it can’t be purchased online. Guess I’ll see if I can find a used one at a decent price (if I can even find it). Thanks for commenting

broseph82, I think Covington makes a 40 pound tumbler. I also sent a note to the Gentleman in Rusk(East Texas)who had a shed full of used equipment, I was curious if he had one. Henry

The Rock Shed carries the Lortone 40 lb for $715 and the Diamond Pacific 40 lb for $660. You can buy 3 - 15 lb Lortones and have $100+ left over. They also carry the DP 65 lb...that is nearly a 5 gallon bucket at a time.Wow!,,. I have looked into them also but struggle to justify the difference in cost. The ability to tumble very large rocks is the attraction for me. Jeff A

Henry After having a 16” saw from Covington and dealing with their customer service and higher ups, I’d rather not give them anymore money. I’m still a little salty

I’d really want to do all my little stuff plus bigger Montana agates together in one go instead of having 3 or 4 12lbers going. Edit: maybe not. I could’ve sworn it says they were out of stock just a few hours ago... weird.

“I’d really want to do all my little stuff plus bigger Montana agates together in one go instead of having 3 or 4 12lbers going.”
I understand. Of course, with the larger rocks, you need the smaller for grit carry. I always think about the difference from 3 lb to 12 lb (huge difference) and wonder what the difference would be from 12 to 40 lb.. The avalanche of material and grinding that takes place must be way better. For me, everything after rough grind goes into the double Lot-O for finish stages. I have a Thumlers 15 lb and 5 Lortone 12 lb running 46/70 only. I also keep a couple Lortone 33B’s for smaller rough using 80 grit...occasionally, they see 12/220 grit for special material.
I think I will eventually try a 40 lb tumbler but there are many other things on my lapidary wish list. We will have to see how it works out. Good luck with your decision.

I have made Many Many purchases from Shawn Cabking 8", BD 10" Saw, Diamond Pacific 40T, (6) Thumler B's (3) Lot "O"s and all the bigger equipment is Drop Shipped from the MFG so they are never out of stock cause it comes from the MFG anyways. Give Shawn a Call and ask for his recommendations. Ill tell ya he spins a DP-65T.

I started out with dual 3lb barrels. Always seemed to take forever. Then I went to a Lot-O, Viking 14lb vibratory, 12lb Lortone... and I have so much rough to tumble. just acquired even more and cant wait years for this stuff to be done in just a 12lb rotary.

Lortone was at least 8 weeks out and behind. 75lbs worth of tumbling and half the new price compared to just 40lb and double the price.
