I'm polishing in three stages 8, 14 and 50K all diamond paste.
How do you know when to move to the next stage?! Just how much heat am I going for? How much pressure to apply?
I'm also cleaning w/alcohol between stages, any concerns with doing this?
Sometimes mystery scratches appear after the first step, I wasn't sure if I had a contaminated pad or if this was something I missed at 3,000 or before. I've replaced my pad and hoping this goes away. Do any of you find that you see things that weren't there before after you polish?

My first diamond pad (canvas is either 50k or 100k. I work on multiple stones so I can stop on one and work on another when I feel heat. I was spraying dry silicon on my pads in the past. When going from 50k to 100k I wipe with a cloth (usually an old cotton t-shirt I wear when cabbing.
