Hey there everyone: The hubs wants to do some rockhounding in Wyoming and we thought this would be a good place to find some information on the rockhounding there . If you went : Were you happy with your finds ? Were you able to find what you were searching for ? Inquiring minds want to know .. Did you enjoy the area z? Yes we both knows it blows like crazy in Wyoming, but he wants to go .. Thanking youi all in advance !!!

Agates, fossils, petwood, the views are crazy cool.. People are great... Get the Wyoming hounding book off of Amazon... About $12.00, tells you everything, plus mapping..

Just saw these responses .. Thank you .. We have the book on Rockhounding there as well as information and books by W.Dan Hausel. We plan a trip to the Blue Forest in either May or June. We are also told there is Opal to be found. I would be happy with common opal to work with and learn how to cut it. Thank you again all who responded ...

I was able to find the sweetwater agate area near Jeffrey city fairly easily. Only issue is 99% of what you find is very small. Got guided into areas to collect some corals and other agatized fossils and the blue forest out towards Kemmerer and spent a day splitting shale at Kemmerer. Got about 50 decent fossils in 4 hours so was well worth the price. Someone found a bat when I was there.
