Going forward my daughter and I are interested in a vibe tumbler. To budget for a Lot-O or UV will take us longer but some things are worth the wait. What are the cons of the Raytech? Thank you in advance. Evan Raytech 23-001 TV-5 Standard Vibratory Tumbler, 0.05 Cubic feet Bowl Capacity, 115V, 60 Hz www.amazon.com/dp/B000Z9C2JI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_Y3nLDbQDJE3H7

That is the vibe I polish all my stone in But the stone runs through the rotary tumbler first You can not use Coarse grit in the tv5 vibe So pick up a rotary tumbler as well

I bought this Raytech and it works fine, although I use a rotary for 95% of my tumbling. The vibe is only for softer stones, like Apache Tears or Sodalite. The one thing that I learned is that too much water is counter productive.

I use a Vibe for all my stones from 220 grit on up to final polish. The only thing that changes is the type of filler you use.

Thank you all. Yes I do want the advantage and time savings of a vibe tumbler. Just asking how the Raytech measures up to the other options. Thx.

@ Manofglass: I wasnt clear. I only use my vibe for softer stones although it would be fine with agates, jaspers, etc.

I just got a tv5 kit with two bowls and grit pack for 148 from Seattle Finding Jewelery Tools. Seems to work pretty well.

JR8675309Just couldn’t get quite all the info I wanted at the time. I didn’t want to sacrifice shine. Also saw some reviews about the bowl wearing out. Finally decided to buy once and cry once. Also have an experiment going for a homemade vibe but need to take a good look at the Lot-O when it gets here. You’re welcome! Evan

I've extolled the virtues of the Vibe - 5 on several occasions. I've used one hard for about 10 years and nearly always starting with 60/90 or coarse grits. I've only eaten up one bowl when a large rock lodged in the bottom and wore through the bowl. But the bowls are replaceable at a reasonable price. So buy away if it meets your price range. I've mostly use the machine for polishing beach cobble (already rounded to a certain degree (especially with my preselection process)) and preforms coming off of my slab saw and cab machine. I can knock out a rough cab on the 80 grit wheel, hit it a quick lick on the 220, and toss it into the vibe once I have a bowl full. If I was trying to round material busted with a sledge hammer I'd probably find any vibe inadequate without a bout in a rotary.

Thanks, knave I've only used it once, but I bought one with the recommendation of manofglass and I'm not sorry I did. It was super affordable and seems to do a great job- plus, if the bowl wears out I think Walt said you can pick one up on Amazon for something like $18.
