I blew through 2019’s rocks with my Lortone 66, 33 and single 6. Ugh.

I've extolled the virtues of the Vibe - 5 on several occasions. I've used one hard for about 10 years and nearly always starting with 60/90 or coarse grits. I've only eaten up one bowl when a large rock lodged in the bottom and wore through the bowl. But the bowls are replaceable at a reasonable price. So buy away if it meets your price range. I've mostly use the machine for polishing beach cobble (already rounded to a certain degree (especially with my preselection process)) and preforms coming off of my slab saw and cab machine. I can knock out a rough cab on the 80 grit wheel, hit it a quick lick on the 220, and toss it into the vibe once I have a bowl full. If I was trying to round material busted with a sledge hammer I'd probably find any vibe inadequate without a bout in a rotary. Someone said you have to bolt these down. True story?

Only the Lot-O vibe has to be attached to a cinder block. Though I’m not certain how. The other ones like my UV-10 and such can just sit on the workbench or whatever.

No mounting it on an additional base for the Vibe -5, but I do usually run mine on the floor for safety. It has never walked but placing it on a benchtop might prompt it to do so. I often run it with the lid off when I'm adjusting the amount of ballast or water, etc. and it can cause a splatter (again a reason to be on the floor and not up), but its not a mess and most of the time the lid is in place to reduce evaporation.

Only thing I've ever heard was to discourage any running hot was to elevate it (not mount it) on 2x4's just set the 2x4's on the spot you are setting it up and set the unit on the 2x4's i have never heard of this unit walking from vibration this, in my opinion, is the best buy unit out there.

**Please let me know if I am “hijacking” this thread and need to start another**. I’m not 100% sure which way to go on that. Thanks!!
The Raytech is going to be going back to Amazon due to missing parts. It’s a good time to take stock on the purchase (my birthday present). What do folks think of the Ultravibe 10 Industrial?
I have lortone tumbler and (33,66 and qt6) but this is the first vibe. I just started experimenting with jewelry. I don’t necessarily want to be limited by size: I’d like to throw in a small slab from time to time or a small thunder egg. Yet I don’t want to be forced to tumble only when I have a ton of rocks to tumble. Is it possible to run them 1/4 filled?
That’s all folks!!

The action is greatly affected by fill level. They need to be 3/4 or more full for proper action. For myself the Lot-O suits my needs very nicely. It is sitting idle right now waiting on rocks to be shaped. The 1 week turnaround is a game changer. TheRock would say to go with the UV10, it has lower decibels per lb of rock, and does not require mounting to a concrete surface. People have published impeccable results with it. On the other hand the Lot-O is very forgiving, my first batch was a complete mixture ranging from basalt and sodalite to amethyst to gneiss and chrysocolla and glass. I was happy how it turned out. Shinier than I expected for this newbie. The glass did not frost. Some undercutting the sodalite but the blue was poppin! Some of the basalt took a dull shine, some took a good shine. I’m not sure if the Uv10 will allow larger material than the loto. Due to the center spindle. I would have to measure. The opening in the loto is not random, if it fits in there, it tumbles for the most part, (with appropriate fill of course.) The loto barrel is heavy rubber, the UV10 barrel is a hard/dense plastic. My friend reports plastic shavings in his rock loads on the UV10, so barre life may be a bit shorter. Hope these ramblings help.

Well then buy them both solve problem Indeed! There’s always the problem of to many rocks and not enough tumblers. What did you say Bill?
