well,...where to start? the beginning, Well it all started in a pool with 2 amoeba's ...no thats too far back. okay.... 2 weeks ago my buddy says"you want to go to Hornitos?" i say "heck yeah". so 2 .5 hours later i was there, not a bad drive at all at 6a.m. on a Saturday. There are claim markers to keep away from ,so we went to the far side in the drainage, hounding here is not for the weak kneed. Steep ,and crumbly, one wrong move and you are toast. All the rocks look the same coming out of the dirt,so prepare to spit a lot,or chip to see color,or pattern Lucky for me, my buddy had done some leg work to get us to a decent spot. 59258834056__D2D5531C-AE3E-4508-9415-E11CE1A1B6EB by paul forsythe, on Flickr IMG_0049 2 by paul forsythe, on Flickr IMG_0054 by paul forsythe, on Flickr IMG_0004 by paul forsythe, on Flickr IMG_0050 2 by paul forsythe, on Flickr IMG_0058 2 by paul forsythe, on Flickr IMG_0056 2 by paul forsythe, on IMG_0059 2 by paul forsythe, on Flickr IMG_0053 2 by paul forsythe, on Flickr IMG_4999 2 by paul forsythe, on Flickr the Brecciated stuff we find is what i have heard Sabre52 calls sierra jasper, very nice Material,we hauled a nice chunk out of there .must of weighed 50# the Poppy material,as nice as it is,is tougher to locate,i hit a few pockets here and there, mostly small stuff, but very, very, pretty. Thinking of going back up week of thanksgiving, take a break from my in-laws(they'll be here all week YIKES ) any body want to join me? Tommy

Very nice PJ! Worth risking life and limb on the steep, crumbly slopes. Do you ever have issues up there with poison oak? In certain areas in SoCal, it is really thick, hard to avoid at times.
I know you will do them up nice. Kudos to your friend for scouting out an area of sweet rocks. Saves you time on "hounding day."

Beautiful, beautiful rocks! Have to agree with Ali - that pink one is to die for. You are one lucky duck, Paul. It seems you and your friends have some type of great rock radar or something.

Wow, nice finds. Someone must have opened up some of the old pits up there or found new areas as that is nice quality jasper. I thought my buddy and I had cleaned out the Sierra Jasper pit, Makes me miss prospecting from our old ranch up there. Gonna have to Google the area and see how much new work has been done just to satisfy my curiosity. Road looks vastly improved too. Used to get so bad I had to hike in sometimes......Mel

Holy moly!!!! Just google sat mapped the Hornitos Jasper area and after the fire and all Trumbull's dozer work, it's not even recognizable from the air. Man he has moved a lot of brush. Tom and I actually had to burrow beneath the manzanita brush and all the brush is no longer even there. Can't even make out a one of the old pits. We had found a lot of tiny pits in that brush. I can now see why some great jasper is coming out again. Awesome!!!! Mel
