Mourning doves? Or European Collared doves? Can't really tell. Coo Coo Coo! They do tend to bug me at times, lol.
I didn't get a chance to look for the fossil limpet pic in my computer today. My dad had had fall and was hospitalized, then developed UTI. After almost four weeks, he just came home today. I'll take a look see tomorrow.

I used to think they were Mourning Doves. After looking at my pictures They look like the Eurasian Collared-Doves. We didn't have them around here until a new neighbor showed up that liked feeding the birds. Don't Feed the Birds !!!

Thanks 'dule. I think he'll be okay, until he falls again. Will take him a little while to settle in back in his home. He'll have a caretaker stay with him overnight, and someone else tomorrow. That'll last for a while, see how he does. He is 91.
What is the tree those doves are in? Definitely a conifer, guessing the brown blotches are cones? Is it a fir tree?

Had to go to town this AM. Drove past local greenhouse/market. Temps last night were in the mid 20's. They had newly planted strawberries in bloom and some small berries. I loved how the sun angle created rainbows against the clear, blue sky. The local blueberry farm posted photos of small berries encased in ice, as they were running sprinklers last night as well.

Aha! Found two pics of the limpet buried in the computer. Had to look through many rock pics. But it was enjoyable.
So this fossil limpet was found in the Wiley Wells area. An area known for its geodes and volcanic history. It is on rhyolite. Side view.
View from above. You can see the ridges and growth rings on the shell quite clearly. The very peak has either been corrode away a little, or just didn't quite form well.
The limpet is about as big as my thumb nail.
When I first found it, I doubted that was what it was. But after cleaning it up good, I decided I was right. I know the area eons ago was an extension of the Gulf of California, so totally can comprehend a saltwater limpet fossil in the desert. But I was just trying to think about how the hot rocks didn't melt it when they formed around it.
But then, I have a fossilized fish skeleton accidentally found in a jasper from the Brenda, AZ area. How was it able to form in jasper, not a sedimentary rock? Head is to left.
I've considered cleaning this up (grinding on it) a little, but don't want to take the risk.
Was fortunate to have even found it! Then I set it down, and had to find it again. Doh! It is somewhere safe here...

You should be proud. You brought a little person into this world and raised her to be the smart, beautiful woman she is today.

A friend and I went looking for morels in my woods yesterday. No morels, but some other interesting finds. My friend saw some of her favorite wild plants. I found one of the dreaded rock eating trees. Also found some type of Rugose coral fossil at the base of a tree. It really stood out against the moss it was on. The crystal center needs a good cleaning. My last find was a yellow violet. Have never seen those here before. I did not take a photo of it, but it did happen, lol. We had a great time wandering in the woods for a couple of hours.

A Flicker has a nest in a dead Poplar tree between my house and barn. Was finally able to get a couple (bad) photos. The sun angle was not good at the time. Nest. Flicker.

Garage sale purchase from a neighbor. Same one I got the sandstone art slab and some other things from. She said it was given to her husband in the 1950’s by a Tribal Elder. The Elder had received it as a child. The drum has had a rough life. It has been repaired several times on its journey. Most recent repairs were replacement of the wood end pieces used to hit the surface of the drum. The center handle had also been replaced about 20 years ago. It was used as a stage instrument for many years. Originally, I wanted to pay the $1.00 and get it for AJ. After learning the history, I might just keep it. I gave AJ a Toco Shell instrument, which he loves. The heads need to be conditioned, which I plan on doing today. It sounds beautiful. So soothing.
