Weekend activities part one. Thought I'd share some scenery pics. Someday I'll be able to go look for more Fairburns- but this is fun, too. What a unique area, I need to check this out sometime. Never been to that area of the country.

And part 2. More hiking, fishing, shooting with my sons and grandson. Thanks for looking! I love Kai's expression. I believe he is thinking, "Jeez, Dad, don't you have enough photos of me already?" Thanks for the pics, Mike! I love the gorgeous scenery up there (but you can keep the cold). Looks like you all had a great time.

Yeah, I'm not a huge fan of the cold, either. If I had my way we'd have three seasons here! It was fun, always nice to get out.

This is a Facebook find, some yooper carving that is hilarious and kind of fits the times we live in Funny...I actually see a smiley face on the #1 finger. Two orange eyes, a small orange nose, and an orange smile. (There's two black eyes and a black nose, but no black mouth...) You're a good guy Jason. Someone gives you the finger and you see a smiley face.

Funny, I've lived here almost 30 years and have never had the time- or rather taken the time- to get out and enjoy these areas. Since I don't know much about geology I had to look it up.
Mostly shale and limestone, so you were right!

Kind of kicking myself for not hiking up to it, but with 3 other people and 2 four-legged beasts we decided not to. Maybe next time...

miket A beautiful area to have so close. Sort of reminds me of the ND Badlands by Medora. My family took a short hike there when traveling to MT. I fell in love with the area.

Frost on the cinquefoil. I harvested some herbs from my yard. Many had succombed to the recent frosts, but some were still good. These will be dried and made into either lotion bars and/or teas. Mullein Lemon Balm. Plantain.

Hard frosts/freezes make sweet collard greens fernwood. Until then they are a bit leathery and bitter.

Oct 25 2021 5:52:38 PM EA It’s awesome. And part of the beauty lies in the fleeting amount of time you had to take that. 5 min later it was gone I’ll bet.

I froze soime and made souop from others. Very nummy. Collards planted in mid Sept are perfectly edibile from maturity in October thru Nov Dec Jan Feb March and until they start to go to seed in April. And very few weeds during these months. A no brainer easy crop. The kale and curly mustards perform about as well. The purple top turnips send up excellent greens until they form turnips about Dec. There will be enough ~4" turnips in this planting to feed 50 hogs for a month lol. They are a biomass monster.
