BILLLL!!! Lololol rofl there’s a man I know who calls his wife torch head but yes, Dear sweet rockjunquie would be saying dear hubby or something of that nature lol. I knew it had to be something other than what my twisted mind was telling me, but yet again I just couldn’t figure it out for the life of me.

DH has never complained once. I make jokes about it, but he never says anything. I tend to pay my own way. For gifts he gets me tools I want. Can't beat tools. Of course, perfume once in awhile is nice, too. Ok I keep seeing this and finally have to ask. What exactly is a DH? I can only think of one thing with my corrupted ass mind, but as funny as it would be (again I’m corrupted) surely it can’t be that. Yup, DH is for Dear Husband. It's pretty old internet slang, but I'm old, so there you have it. He is my DH, though. He's a really great guy. Not to say, I don't get thoroughly pissed at him sometimes. LOL!

I’m so glad to finally understand, though I must admit it was a pretty funny read with my twisted interpretation. Yes I know, I’m a bad man.

Well we got some really good news today. A check arrived from in-laws helping us with medical bills. (ETA) This was all my wife’s doing, I had no idea it was coming. I had been planning on setting up payments to them. My inner self sensed the opportunity and I sheepishly disclosed my purchases. (Also my Full Moon stuff arrived) It went over quite well. Told her I was done buying equipment for awhile. I’m a happy man.

Well we got some really good news today. A check arrived from in-laws helping us with medical bills. My inner feng-shui sensed the opportunity and I sheepishly disclosed my purchases. (Also my Full Moon stuff arrived) It went over quite well. Told her I was done buying equipment for awhile. I’m a happy man. Glad that worked out well. I still think the biggest selling point is getting the kids involved. That's huge IMHO. Gone are the days when many of us were playing football in the street and whatever else we could do without the electronics and everything else that exists nowadays. Shoot, we were out until the sun went down and then still tried to figure out what trouble we could get into. Figuring out how to deal with kids nowadays is a bitch. We got lucky. Our son found baseball early on and he ended up playing through college. That was a blessing, as it kept him out of trouble. The fact that you can get your kids involved in an earth hobby, without the electronics, is great IMHO.

When I was working we had a $500 rule. Any purchase under that required no discussion. Since retiring, with less income I watched my lapidary expenses. Since I began selling, the hobby is self funding and I buy whatever I want. I don't keep sales revenue separate, but I have a general idea where I am at.

When I work at the Hayw*rd reservation, they have a $3,000 rule... anything under that is an automatic yes. $3,001 you need a second quote. They have literally begged me to do projects at the end of the month and bill $2,999 on the 31st AND the 1st, lol. Haven’t done it yet but look, they are trying to game their own system. (Evan lets not get into socialist cave topics here)

Today.... mailman pulled up with 3 boxes. Boots from Kohl’s and 2 MFRBs from <'))))>< Fish. Oooooooh my DW wasn’t very happy about it. We talked through it and we are now on common ground. I will behave now. Not so trigger happy. But I sure could use a slab saw now for these big rocks. Lol

(Evan lets not get into socialist cave topics here) Sounds like use it or lose it budgeting; if the money isn't spent the budget gets smaller. I've seen it before and consider it wasteful. Before I started selling, I never spent over $100 for a piece of rough because it's a gamble. I feel free to do that now and when an opportunity presents itself, I can buy. Same with equipment and supplies; opportunity not immediate need.

Words of caution, my friend: When you are super duper addicted obsessed, nothing but the best will do. The last 3 slabs I bought were pretty steep, but they were worth every penny.

Not that I have much money to splurge to begin with, but even if I did I can’t see spending much on a rock, that I don’t even know what I’ll do with after. Sure I love the hobby and would love to have some real rocks with color and patterns to tumble, but then I think what then? I’m not making cabs or selling anything, so it’s hard to justify. I guess maybe if I had more money I wouldn’t mind once in a while or so I guess. I unno. I just keep forcing myself out and trying new locations in hopes that some day I’ll find that magical spot.

I know what you mean. I have to support my hobby myself by selling. I would never buy a fraction of what I do if I didn't sell cabs and jewelry to support the habit.

I guess maybe if I had more money I wouldn’t mind once in a while or so I guess. I unno. I just keep forcing myself out and trying new locations in hopes that some day I’ll find that magical spot. I have to tell you I was pretty much of the same mindset as you, as all I do is tumble, and there's no means to recoup the costs of what I do. That's pretty much still my thinking, but a couple years ago, I spent about $120 on four pounds of rocks. This fell within my trip budget at the time, and I pulled the trigger. Was it a good decision at the end of the day? Probably not, but it's stuff I'll not get rid of since it's not that common. For me, this purchase was a one-off. As a tumbler, I'm far more deep in the red than I would ever be if I was someone doing cabs. Those folks can recoup some of their costs by selling a finished product. The problem with simply being a tumbler (without selling) is that I constantly looked for a way to improve the quality of my tumbles and that meant trying to obtain better rough. As the old saying goes, GIGO. So, where am I at now? I'm still looking to produce the best rocks I can, and I think I've been fairly successful. We've managed to start running out of display vessels here at home, so I satisfy myself by giving rocks to elementary school teachers to use as prizes for work well done. The neat thing is I've gotten feedback about kids bypassing candy in the prize boxes, and they are grabbing the rocks instead. To date, I think I've given away 25-30 pounds of polished rocks, and I'm happy about how they have been received by the kids.
