I was just wondering if a Harbor Freight 3 LB barrel will fit in a Lortone 33a or b?
Also, I mentioned elsewhere that I replaced my wobbly Thumler model T shaft pulley with a Lortone shaft pulley and belt for a Lortone 33B. They use the same 5/16 diameter rod. I made new shafts from rod stock I got at ACE, eliminated all the press on retainers and the white guide wheels. I used a shower/tub roller also from ACE. I got the idea from a youtube video about a man with a Harbor Freight tumbler that had a rubbing problem. On mine, the barrel would migrate to one side and rub against the white wheel making a tarry goo and noise. I used 5/16 ID automotive fuel line on the shafts. Next I locked them in place with 5/16" shaft collars from MSC industrial supply that have cross bolt instead of grub screws so the shaft is not marred, The original bushing are drilled in the top to use a dry lube spray, the ones with the little red tubes.

I haven't tried exactly that but I have used Lortone barrel lids and gaskets on barrels that came with one of the HF style knockoff tumblers. Everything fit together. I think they are close enough if not exactly the same.

It's nice to be mechanical when having tumbling equipment.... All good ideas... Never waste!

Reason I was wondering about the HF barrels, is that you can buy the entire HF tumbler with barrels with a coupon for about what you would pay for two Lortone barrels. Possible no brainer if so.

The 3lb barrels are interchangeable between the Harbor Freight and Lortone tumblers. The difference is the nut that holds the lid down. On the Lortone it has the barrel guide groove in it that runs on that guide tab (mounted on the tumbler) and the Harbor freight nut is just textured for grip.

Not all Lortone 33b's have the guide tab, mine has a little plastic tab to keep barrels away from the frame. My QT6 and QT12 do have the guide tabs.
