I had to show him it was safe. The other day a slab broke and his thumb landed right on the blade, actually made some red skin, didn’t actually cut though. Kid skin is tender.

I have some M-5 which is supposed to work good for jade & softer materials but I haven't tried it yet on much of anything. It might work for Indian Paint. Next time I cab some I'll try it & post the pictures.

Learn something everyday. I picked up two big pieces of this material from the guy at the Booth right behind us, about 20 pounds total. The seller did not know the name as it was something he bought at an Estate sale. Listening to the discussion and looking at the Pendant pictures posted, it is Indian Paint Stone. Have slabbed a bit and after cutting some shapes and grinding a bit it was very soft as everyone describes. I am just going to shape and smooth them as well as I can and try selling them as is.
If the image department(my daughter) comes by soon I will post a few pictures.
I did try and look up prices and as most on the Internet, they are way too high for me to pay what those folks expect.

I'm late for the party but since the thread came back up I thought I'd toss in my two cents. I love the look of IPS but it really is an enigma. After giving up on it all together for a long time I finally discovered that it flat laps pretty well. I have a bunch of it squirreled away as preforms and if and when I decide to work on them, flat-lapping drilled buff tops is the only way I'll do it ever again.

I have some pieces if someone wants them. Years ago, I tried making a cab and ended up making a potato chip. I've become a lot better working on soft material, but anything I work on needs to have a decent polish and I can't get one using diamond paste.

Ok, finally got a picture of a slab from each of the two pieces I picked up. My assumption is that they are both Indian Paint Stone; IMG_2055 (1) by Findrocks, on Flickr I have 10 freeform pieces from this material polishing in the mini-sonic. After about 20 hours they had a matte finish. Will run another day or so and check progress. Hnry
