Hello, My name is Arielle. My husband & I have been collecting "wild" rocks during hiking and camping trips around the desert Southwest for the past 10 years. He wire-wraps tumbled stones to make beautiful pendants. We usually buy stones in Quartzsite, but sometimes we find them at gem shows or at local shops in towns we visit. Since we love the beauty of rocks, we have amassed a huge collection of random rocks. I would like to learn how to turn some of these rough & natural rocks into beautiful stones for him to wrap. I am a high school math teacher, and my husband is a touring drummer in a rock band. We are both home, sheltering in place in Yucca Valley, CA. We have lost his income for the time being, and so we are on a very tight budget. We are hoping to learn how to use some inexpensive tools to shape and polish our rocks. We have a wet tile saw from Harbor Freight, and we have a continuous diamond blade for it. We are going to get our hands on a flex shaft and some bits for me to use to polish the rocks. We'd love a tumbler too, but we may have to wait on that for financial reasons. We also need to learn a lot more about tumblers before making any decisions. We don't want to lose too much volume from the small rocks we have collected, so tumbling may be too dangerous for our stones. We need to learn about the different grits and rocks too. We have no clue what we are looking at. Are they quartz, agates, calcites, jaspers, granite, sandstone, etc.? Who knows?! Somebody must know. We are here to learn! Thank you for welcoming us into this educational space! A & K

Welcome from Northern Arizona!
Post some your rocks on the identification board and someone will likely know what they are.

Welcome from WI. This is a great place to learn. Yes, post some of your rocks for ID. I haven't figured out how to upload any photos. I see I can attach a URL, but I don't see how to upload. I don't have a URL for photos I took on my phone.

mirdonamy Welcome from North Idaho. Are momeraths a shout out to Lewis Carroll? Why, yes, of course! I love both Alice books so much! I love the original Disney movie too. I have a Disney mome rath tattoo as well. disney.fandom.com/wiki/Mome_Raths

The Disney Mome Raths aren’t what I pictured from the poem.
