Hello! New to the forum.
Got into rock tumbling several years ago and did it a few times. Then life got in the way and fell away from the hobby. I still have my 12 pound Thulmers tumbler and from a yard sale a vibratory polisher that I've never used.
I have grandkids now and with the current shelter in place situation I thought I'd try to dust off the dust and teach my grandkids about patients and how beautiful a stone can look after polishing.
The last time I did this was with my kids and we went to a local landscape yard that sold various rocks. He let us go through with a bucket and cherry pick for a few bucks. He's no longer there. We used a spray bottle with water tip get an idea of what the rocks might look like polished.
We're in Florida so rocks aren't typically laying around. Any advice on acquiring rocks for tumbling would be appreciated.
I have a rock that I've been hanging onto for several years for polishing. Ill make another post to see if I can get it identified.
Thanks!
Jeff

Lots of world class tumblers on the forum to help you out if you have questions. The archives in the Tumbling Board is a gold mine of knowledge.

Welcome. The rock shed in South Dakota is where a majority of us get our tumbling supplies. He sells tumblers, parts, grits, polishes and several types of rough rocks already sized for tumbling. Kingsley North in Michigan is another one I use. the rock shedkingsley northChuck

Welcome from South Carolina! I've had good luck with tumbling rough purchased from various online vendors. Kingsley North, Stone Age Industries, The Rock Shed, and others. In fact, our own catmandewe has some listed here on the RTH marketplace right now. Other folks post tumbling rough there too, from time to time. I don't know where in FL you are, but there is probably a local rock shop that you could build a relationship with, although it may currently be closed due to the Coronavirus. I prefer to hound my own, but unless you live somewhere with good collecting, it's probably cheaper just to buy. Best of luck, and post pictures of your progress!

Greetings Jeff and welcome to the forum!
I hound most of my rocks from the local landscaping retailer. They have some nice River Rock where I always find agates, jasmine and plenty of petrified wood

Welcome to the forums from the desert Southwest. You have come to the right place if you are looking for advice on where to search for rocks in your vicinity. Plus many of our members post in a "For Sale" section often, some of their own rock treasures which they want to share with others. It's worth taking a look for sure. Best of luck!
