I have a old 12" Lortone saw with separate switch for the feed. The last 2 years the first cut of the day would take some TLC to engage and would work fine the rest of the day. Today it wouldn't feed. Do I need a new feed switch? Any other ideas? Thanks Arne

Might need a new switch. Could also just be a loose connection or gunked up switch. Open up the housing holding the switch. Check the wires from the switch to where they go. Might be a loose wire nut too. If nothing obviously looks amiss then a new switch is good start.

If I recall correctly, there are issues with the 12" and 14" lortones going through switches. If you have access to a volt meter it would very quick to determine if it is a switch or motor issue.

" old 12 Lortone saw"....
I'll wager on hardened grease inside the feed motor gearbox.

If you don’t have a volt meter, you could unplug the unit, and wire around the switch to see if that resolves the issue.

If your machine is a Panther and the lead screw is not turning when the switch is engaged....remove the feed motor cover and if the motor/switch works it may be the coupling between motor and the leadscrew. One of the set screws came loose on ours last month. It was an easy fix. However if this has been an intermittent problem the switch is the more likely culprit.

Thank you for the replies. I don't have a volt meter so I took Knave's advise and wired around the switch. That solved the problem.
