Went out today and walked the edge of field. Was not disappointed. Some coral nodules, a jaspelite, quartz/jasper combos and some very pretty quartz. One of the combos has agate banding. Everything I brought home. The corals. Favorite jasper/quartz mixes. See the agate banding in this one? Another one that has promise. Even though it was cold and breezy, I enjoyed my time hunting for rocks.

Hard to tell, but that is a quarter in the first photo.

Really colorful pieces! The edges of my field are just a mix of gray basalt and cheat grass.

I love everything the glacier dumped here when it melted.

You make me wish that I had gotten into lapidary as a kid, Beth. I'm imagining all of the rocks that I ignored while wandering around areas of Wisconsin, and especially in Portage County.

opalpyrexia I had no idea when I purchased this property what a gem it was for rocks. Have done a lot of research on the area and consulted local experts, including UWSP geology professors and the curator of the UWSP Natural Science Museum. Billy has been very helpful as well. My daughter is becoming more tolerant of my rock addiction and is no longer threatening to put all of my finds back into the fields/woods. All she is asking is that I not have 1000 lbs of rocks in my small house, lol. Let me know if you get back to this area. WE can do some rock hunting.

Unfortunately I have to add rocks to mine, since I don't seem to have any on my land lol. Good perk to have! Keepers even better !
