This stohn is incredible Unfortunately it broke And there is no fix Have to reconsider a different design the rock must be some type of sedimentary highly metamorphizised fine fine grained clay real resistant to the grind wheel and when it breaks it breaks cleanly look forward to grinding on…mohs

Dang, mohs, that sucks! I hate it when that happens, but like you said you just grind on... That is a very nice rock.

I broke a nice piece of OJ grinding away on it last night- rescued one small cab out of it. Maybe rocks just do what they want to do... I have faith in you, you'll save it!

Sorry another one broke on you, Ed.
The stone looks to me like it could be Wonderstone, but I'm not 100% sure.

It turned out great, mohs!
Another stone it might be is Apache Sage (Mimbres) Rhyolite. Colors are similar to it and here are large parts of the stone that don't have patterns sometimes.

@ edmost have you tried grinding in a different direction Grinding from the upper thicker end down to the thinner point most likely you probably have but it was just a thought

interesting dreamrock used to grind the heart sloping downward in example....thinner towards the point not as much any morhz not sure why I've changed ?
besides concentrating more on grinding the sides or the girdle more to get a higher double dome...
o thanks for posing those nice big examples of rhyolite try cropping your pictures its classier

Right on Robin I think with out seeing it 3-D You may have very well have identified it! Mimbres type of Rhyolite may be Here another prompting link nmgs.nmt.edu/publications/guidebooks/downloads/16/16_p0167_p0174.pdfmostly because of grinding it the stohn reminds me of some sort of sedimentary clay highly pressurized & morphed altho rhyo is is certainly fine grained and highly pressurized rock Thanks !

So work the dome and girdle then grind down to the point keep in mind after working the dome the point will be thinner = Sloan down a bit so you don’t Break your heart again 😁
