jeannie was on her way to spend the weekend at the new house. She saw smoke. Yep, wildfire less than a mile from the new place. Here is a pic from a neighbor. Green roof is ours Firefighters squelched it. They are there today mopping up. True heros. Perhaps aDave can educate us on how lightning (verified present) could start a fire 9-12 hours later. Little scare. Insurance is key. HOA to address secondary egress. No harm no foul. Glad your house and selves are safe Scott and Jeannie!

I can verify that, Aussie firefighter. Lightning strikes a big old tree, it smoulders all night because it's a bit humid, around 10:00 11:00 AM the temperature rises, humidity drops, tree starts dropping sparks all over the place. The day after a lightning storm is always a bit tense. I have had a neighbours fire start up six weeks after it was thought to be out, he was doing the right thing raked all his sticks and leaves up into little piles and burnt them in spring, everything was fine until we had a hot windy day and the fire which had got down into an ancient stump and burnt along the buried roots sprung up out of a crack in the ground, it burnt across his place and then mine

Besides the handgun If it were me I would talk her into a 270 with a scope and kiss that most likely a grisly bear right between the eyes. Then she could have a bear skin rug for your new house and save some young elks at the same time. Just a thought

It's a black bear. No grizzlies that far south.
I do have a 308 for that purpose. May also build an AR for her to use for yard defense.

But that one is on the radar. I have a receiver, but may wait for the Colorado move. I can get NSA stamped short barrel there and a suppressor can too!

You now have room enough to build a target range! That's the plan. Hahahaha! Rather than standing cans on a log, I foresee lots of welding -a dozen targets to couplings with a slightly heavier weight on the bottom of the coupling to swing it back into place after a hit. A smaller pipe running through them held up by at least a yard tall stand, 20-50 feet away for pistol practice. Larger targets at 100 yard intervals up to 5 miles away - - - - - - - - - - - -Just to keep you sharp.

1daveI visualize something like this behind paper targets. This way I catch the lead and can recycle it My mental image is a bit different, but you get the idea

That would be a very nice set-up....... just a little over kill......... and a 5mi range even extreme for sniper training...........lol.........25yd, 50yrd, 100yrd intervals make sense and practical for all aspects of handgun and long rifle training.....! Would be nice if bunkered against a hillside too....!
