Or do you think it's something else? I forgot to take a pic of the slab

I could be wrong but to me it looks more like rhyolite - maybe from Nevada. The tell is in the lines... here in particular -

My first impression was Owyhee Sunset jasper. That might be the result of the "poisoned well" suggestion of Owyhee Basin, though Still, colors and patterns are similar to Sunset.

You were thinking something like this, Tommy ?
It does look very similar.
My google search of Rhyolite turned up some sandstone looking shite instead of purty rocks

Nothing that specific in mind Eric, just red lines in a beige background reminds me of wonderstone type rhyolite which I've seen in various locations around Nevada and the west in general. Not all of it is as flashy as the material from Wonderstone Mountain or Dead Camel Mountains materials which are only about ten miles from each other as the crow flys. Here's a neat thread by nowyo of rhyolite types of materials that come form northern Nevada. forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/thread/83693/little-more-wanderingIt could also very likely be material from Owyhees as was pointed out.

Thanks Tommy . I did some extensive searching and found a few pics of wonderstone rhyolite from Utah and Nevada that look extremely similar to these, although most bears no resemblance. I also looked at a lot of owyhee and found almost nothing even close in color and pattern.

Just saw this thread after Tommy tagged me. Yeah, looks like rhyolite, lots of it around and lots of variation. The high silica content stuff can work up nice and take a decent polish. Here is some we found more recently.
Hardly an expert, just keep running into this stuff. You know what they say about Nevada, things are tuff all over.
