I'm in the (hopefully) final stages of building a small portable slant cabber, but when I did a bit of a test run yesterday to see how it handles the water I found that it threw out a lot of very fine mist into the air. Is this normal for a slant/flat lap cabber ? Would attaching a rubber skirt around the rim of the pan help reduce this ?

Can you do with less water or a slower speed?

Are you feeding the water to the center of the disc and letting centrifugal force spread it across the surface?

Neat build. I use one mainly for polishing at low rpm's and even then it throws quite a bit of spray, so I think the rubber skirt would solve that problem.
What speed is it turning? Mine has a variable speed control so I can regulate rpm's for various cutting/polishing tasks. I seldom use it at full speed but apart from polishing I only use it for sanding certain cuts of stones. The suggestion to feed water at the spindle is a good one. From what you've posted I'd guess it's turning too fast.

Solved a couple of problems. I've bought 1 of these to control the water There is a speed controller right at the lower back, you've got to look hard to see it. I was using acrylic discs with foam rubber glued on and wet and dry sic glued onto the foam. This turned out to be to light and didn't cut very well, you had to apply a fair bit of pressure to make them cut which then slowed down the motor. When I added a diamond disk on top it cut much better with a lot less pressure so the motor could be run at a lower speed and still cut. I think the extra weight also helped the momentum of the disk
