Hi, I have just registered here and I have just bought a Beach 5 lb Rubber Barrel Stone Polishing Machine.
I have no experience in Rock Tumbling, and look forward to learning how to make great looking Rocks and Stones that are found in the U.K.
I know little about Geology so please, any pointers and tips to aid my learning would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
Alex. 👍

boucaneerWelcome to RTH. There is so much information here it’s mind boggling. If you have specific questions about anything rock related, just ask. Somebody here will be able to help you out. It’s such a fun hobby

Welcome from Northern Arizona!
The archives are filled with great info, and you may want to start just poking around in the Tumbling Board to get a general feel for the hobby.
We have some great folks who'd be happy to answer your questions.

Welcome I am from the UK as well, I have an Evans tumbler two 1,5lb barrels. We have it tough as a lot of the rock tumbling accessory's are not available in the UK. and everything seem to cost twice as much as in the us.
Not sure where you live but near me flint is common and that is what i have started m first tumble with hopefully they will turn out well, problem i have had so far is flint is very hard so it going to take a lot longer to tumble.

Welcome from the desert Southwest, Alex! We have some members from your side of the pond too! And I think it would be cool to see what kinds of rocks can be found an polished in the UK. Take a look at our Tumbling forum when you have a chance. There is lots of advice for beginners there. That is how I got started too.

Thank you all guys.
Yes, this is a great forum for information that I keep coming back to.
Plenty of reading to do here, with helpful experience and opinions.
I’m going back to the reading/studying now to work out my Ceramic Media choices.
Cheers and Thanks all. 👍

Hi SkullTumbler, Yeah, I think half the knack is learning the way to get great results by finding alternative methods. For example, I needed some Ceramic Media for my Stage 2 on Monday, and checking the main U.K Lapidary Websites the Ceramic Media was lacking, and what they did have was way overpriced, like £8 for 250 grams. After a bit of alternative searching and learning I gave bought 6 Kilograms of Aquarium Quartz Pea Gravel size 3-9 mm’s for twenty quid. It’s things like that example that shows sometimes there are better solutions available. I’m heading down to Devon soon to find some Elvan/Greenstone and a bit of Black Basalt. Good luck and learning with ya Rock Hunting. 👍
