Been seeing a lot of good things about the richardson ranch buffer. However it is just as fast as my cabking. I'm looking for something slower in that build. Our can someone tell a NOVICE how to slow it down.

Are you asking about the Richardson Ranch buffer? Normally one would choose a smaller drive pulley or a larger shaft pulley, or both, but their buffer is maxed out.
You could choose to polish closer to the center of the pad. A point halfway from the outer edge of the pad is moving half the speed of the edge of the pad. So you could choose a speed by choosing what part of the pad to use. Does that help?

I'm also confused about which unit you're asking about.
We have a Richardson's buffer - a 12" diameter polishing head turned by a 12" pulley coming off a 1-1/2" pulley on a 1/4 HP motor.
They also make a high-speed sander.

Are you talking about the rpm of the grinder or are you asking about how to cut soft stones slower?

Sorry, yes I'm talking about how to slow the rpms down maybe by half. Several if the variscite/turquoise crabbers talk about slower rpms vs the rpms on the cabking 8 end flat lap
