Hi Folks I've just joined the forum to see what hints and tips I can pick up. My, there's a lot of very useful information and experience on here I've had an interest in geology since secondary school and have a bit of knowledge that might prove useful. I've just bought an Evans 3lb tumbler to dip my toe in the murky water of tumbling and am 4 days into my first batch of mixed specimens. I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out Unfortunately my local geology is mostly sedimentary (Devonian lacustrine and aeolian sand/mud/siltstones) so it looks like specimen gathering will have to wait until I'm on the mainland again

You may only have sedimentary rocks, but you do have the Highland Park Distillery. Highland Park single malt was always one of my favorites back in the day. Welcome to the forum from California.

Welcome aboard the RTH from the Desert Southwest! Boy have you picked a good website to learn from. The rock tumbling knowledge collective here is astounding.
Like you, I first found lapidary at a young age. And it always kind of stuck with me. Like you, tumbling was my way to get in to the hobby. And I learned all I have so far from this group. I think I am always learning though. Every new rock is a new learning thing. Good luck!
