awesome! so do you find them already exposed or do you break em open to find ? Thanks! And yes. Just kidding, it's a little of both. If you saw the pictures with all of the rocks I mostly spent time moving big rocks and looking for anything interesting. I brought home a 5 gallon bucket full and I didn't break any open this trip. Not all of them are great but I'm hoping to get cabs out of 90% of what I picked up. Sometimes the Teepees fracture or lose pattern when I try to cut or cab them.

Those look really promising, Mike! I would love to go TeePee hunting.

Those look really promising, Mike! I would love to go TeePee hunting. I think so too, Robin. And you should do it sometime. They're way easier to find than Fairburns and just as beautiful in my opinion. Yeah, they may not be worth as much since they're more common but they do make some nice pendants.... Anyway, take a trip to South Dakota- I'll even share my spots!

Nice. The matrix rock sure doesn’t give anything away.

Nice. The matrix rock sure doesn’t give anything away. No it sure doesn't. Once in a while you can catch a glimpse of what may be inside, but not very often. On the plus side when you find a nice Teepee it's like winning the lottery- at least to me!

Nice finds! I don’t know I would have the patience to search inside all those rocks unless the rocks showed promise. Thanks!

Honestly it takes less patience than wandering around on the prairie looking for Fairburns... Like I said, I didn't break many rocks this time- but I sure moved a lot of big ones to look underneath.

Mike - not saying the idea is growing legs yet but I love to research stuff like this. Just as a point of research what would be a centralized city location that would best serve as a starting location for a meetup going to teepee? Also, strolling in the plains for fairburns would be amazing too if that's not too far in a different direction.

I thought about the fairburns also. From Rapid City to the town of Fairburn is about a half hour, Fairburn is about 45 minutes from Custer. There's also Railroad Buttes and Scenic. But honestly, I've had better luck finding fairburns in the Oglala Grasslands here in Nebraska, about an hour and a half from Rapid City or about 45 minutes from Custer.

Just out of curiosity without putting you on the spot (any more than I already have) and without publicly posting any of your personal collecting locations, on a scale of one to ten how accurate would you say Google's location marked Teepee Canyon is?
