I’ve been thinking about building a flat lap and came across this. It’s a blower motor from a furnace and wondering if this would be ok. RPMs seem about right for 12” but the couple commercial ones I looked at use a 3/4 hp motor. Thoughts?

I built an 8" flat lap with a 1/3 hp motor and have never had an issue with it.
One thing to be careful with is if you look at the label to the right of the GE Motors it says "cont air over". This being a fan motor it got it's cooling from moving that air. So in that respect you'd need to somehow get air blown over the motor as it's running to keep it cool.
Good luck with your build & post lots of pictures. I'm sure along with many others, I enjoy watching home built projects come to fruition.
