It's amazing that fossilization can, under certain circumstances, preserve features so small and fragile. Fascinating.
Thanks for posting that. I find it very interesting that there's a specific term, 'structural color', that is used to describe the cause of the insect colors. It's fundamentally diffraction and interference of light and therefore essentially the same phenomenon that produces iridescence in so many minerals — opal, labradorite, ammolite, fire agate, etc., even if there are differences in their structures.
