Ran across this one on eBay. What do you think? Pretty impressive, I think.
Dang right it's impressive. At the top right corner I see a twig ghost cross section with another just below. Down a little lower, just at 4 o'clock from center are a couple more twig ghosts that are a darker color. I'd count myself lucky to have one that good in my collection, not only for it's beauty but also it's scientific value. Yeah, the twigs are what clued me in that it's coprolite- certainly not the color. I'm talking to the guy now. He did not hound it, but bought it locally.

Here's a strange question- Have you found any that clearly looked like they had been stepped in? Wouldn't it be cool to find one with a footprint. There has to be some.

Here's a strange question- Have you found any that clearly looked like they had been stepped in? Wouldn't it be cool to find one with a footprint. There has to be some. I've found many that have been broken up before they were petrified and I'm fairly confident they were trampled, but nothing with clear prints that are indisputable. Being that I spent many years on a cattle/horse ranch I have seen countless trampled turds and I recognize subtle nuances in the coprolites that remind me of back on the ranch. It's really hard to put into words what to look for, but you know it when you see it. I never bother to pick up those pieces because being fragmentary they don't seem to have the beautiful colors and patterns in the center of the specimen like intact ones do. I would be giddy with joy if I ever found one that had a clear print in it.

Here's an interesting specimen cut this morning. I don't recall having seen quite such brilliant jasper colors in your collection yet, but at 119 pages, that's a lot to wade through... Colors seem a bit more washed out on my screen here, very vivid orange/yellow, few fortification lines.

That's a unique turd for sure and thanks for sharing it. I wouldn't be surprised if that bright color is the agate that filled a void created by a beetle. The fortification lines suggest a void filled by successive layers of agate.
Also, I think I see a ghost of a limb cross section just under the bright color on the right photo?

I retrieved the mail today and had a surprise. Our resident flint knapping expert RickB sent me some points and here is a dandy he made from coprolite! Count me as super excited to add it to the poo collection. Thanks Rick, that was classy. I suppose you could call this one a pootato chip.

Avert your eyes if you're squeamish, this one is brutally rugged.

Here's two that I cut and polished. Not sure where collected they were in a cat litter box with 6 or 7 others; IMG_4199 by Findrocks, on Flickr IMG_4200 by Findrocks, on Flickr

I notice the patterns in both seem to have similarities even though the colors are different. I also notice they seem to have different nuances than most of what I find from southern Utah so I'm really curious where they came from. Thanks for sharing.
