That image makes me contemplate the Chixulub event and it must have been something to put eyes on it as approached.

Dung beetle larvae replaced by agate Dung beetle larvae Rick, I think you're onto something there.

The only thing better than being a sh!t talker is throwing rocks into poo. I remember the fiendish delight my boyhood friends and I enjoyed throwing rocks into cow pies out on the ranch. The following photos show rocks, aka, gastroliths or gizzard stones protruding from coprolites. I'm feeling confident these were not embedded into the poo from falling upon the turf, but we're digested and expelled with the poo. The highly polished surface of the stones seem to indicate they tumbled through the digestive tract.

This one especially shows a flat surface from impact deformation from landing upon the ground. The flat area I'm referring to is on the bottom where my hand appears and it has the imprint of the ground that it landed upon.

Now, if you found one with a banded agate in it, I would pay money for that! But even regular rocks are cool!

Now, if you found one with a banded agate in it, I would pay money for that! But even regular rocks are cool! Check this out... here's one where the gastrolith is a piece of petrified wood that was already petrified when the dino ingested it as a gizzard stone. Think about it, there could be more of a time span between the formation of the wood versus the coprolite than between the coprolite and our time. Photos below...

Those gastroliths are amazing!! YES, it's even more amazing that petrified wood was eaten. Just thinking about it boggles the mind. Thank you so much for sharing!

Are you really sure that some of them couldn't have been smaller dino's throwing rocks ?
I mean kids always like to throw rocks.
