I have been to Thermopolis , Wy a few times and spent a little time in the hot springs. Also the cannon I believe south of Thermopolis is a pretty nice drive. Of corse I have been to Yellowstone and the surrounding area, Jackson Hole. I have been wanting to get over just south of Landers to do some rockhounding. Maybe in October I can make that trip on my way to southern Utah/Arizona. I enjoy your outing and all the pictures.

Layers of chalcedony are often found in transition zones of the fossil.

Once in a while the core is replaced with crystal. This one's my favorite.

Other times just multiple layers of chalcedony.

This outer skin is often present on these guys. After a long time I've tentatively concluded it's the outer surface of the algea stuck on casts of stumps and logs. Anyone know for sure?

We also find a lot of banded chert in the area. It weathers unevenly and sports a nice desert varnish. I love and collect the most tortured ones. I like to tell gullible folks they got that way by sweltering in the bowels of hell.

This broken glass was probably carried in a wagon to become a window in a cabin. Note that it's still lying in the wagon track and has a purple hue indicating pre 1920 date. Shame that it broke after so many dusty miles.

In a secluded plain a few miles from where the pioneer trail crosses the Green River lies an out of place pile of rocks. It's about a half mile North of the trail. In it's context it was obvious to me that the odd rocks came from a knoll about 400 yards away. Why? I feel confident we found some pioneers grave. RIP

No trip to southwest Wyoming can be complete without a stop at the Farson general store for ice cream cones. These are the small size. Thanks for tagging along.

That looks like a dry heat. 😅 Thanks for sharing the pictures, I want to do that someday. Evan, his hands don't look so bad. But when they do get bad, I highly recommend O'Keeffe's to salvage them. During the winter when the humidity is low, my hands get skin splits so bad. O'Keeffe's is about the only cream that will fix them - and quickly, too!

Massive stumps encased in algae. Whew! I feared it was a coprolite.
