Howdy All! I'm looking to find a lot-o-Tumber motor on the cheap. The only one I could find in stock was $186 which seems a little ridiculous. I had one freeze up on me after four months. The quality control for Lot-O seems very poor for some reason. The counterweights are not made very well at all. If anybody knows where I might find a motor online it would be greatly appreciated.

Can I get a picture of the sticker on the motor? Mine is hidden by the top of the tumbler and I'm not going to remove the motor to get to it

gregniel I got the motor sticker information from Tommy's thread about his motor burning up. The only replacements I can find aftermarket are ones with sleeve bearings (bushings) instead of ball bearings, so unless that's acceptable, you are stuck with getting one specifically for the Lot-O. Most electric motors these days are "assembled in mexico" and aren't very good quality, not really Lot-o's fault there. Maybe give Minnesota Lapidary Supply a call @ (888)612-3444 and see if they have one. Their part# is 101200 and they sell it for $99.95 Good luck
Edit: OR... call the place you bought it from and ask them if there is something they can do about it. That's a premature failure unless it was abused, which I'm sure it wasn't

What's the warranty on the motor? Have you called the manufacturer to see if something can be done for you? ETA: NVM. I just saw on the Rock Shed's website that the motor is warrantied for 90 days. I'd still call the manufacturer to see if they can help you acquire one or if they'll do something for you replacement-wise.

Thumlers was just down for quite a while with the whole Corona thing. I’d call them up and see if you can get it repaired under warranty. That’s what I did with my UV-10 and had no problems. They were very helpful. It may also help if you first contact the company that you purchased from and see if they can contact Thumlers for you first. That’s what I did. Best of luck.

I ended up taking the motor apart and basically rebuilding it. Had it working then it fried the next day ~ I'll end up going through the Rock Shed. It's been way over 90 days but looking back the motor was defective from the gate. Thank you all for your reply's.

This was exactly my experience, except after rebuilding it I got about 7 minutes of run time before it completely seized up. Did you ever find a replacement motor?

I am not at all familiar with the Lot-O Tumbler. Does it operate on the counter-weight on the motor shaft?

I called Minnesota Lapidary Supply as mentioned above and spoke to someone there for several minutes. I forget his name (I'm horrible with names), but he said they've seen a big increase in motor failures since the start of covid and that the issue is two pronged. He said the first issue is the global supply chain issues going on. They're having to use substandard parts. The second issue is workers in the factories getting covid and they have to pull in untrained workers to keep assembly going. He said he used to work in a motor factory and that it takes years of training to be able to correctly operate some of the machinery.

That has to be some of the poorest and weakest excuses I've ever seen for crummy manufacturing. Do a claim to BBB and maybe they will get run out of business. That's a tough one to fix for sure, but why volunteer to buy junk parts, especially when Mfg. admits it.
