Always loved geology and gems, always wanted a tumbler... after a recent trip to a Lake Erie beach with my kids where we spent nearly 100% of the time hunting for the most beautiful rocks, I knew it was time! My mom got me a Lortone 33B tumbler for my birthday at my request (yes I am an adult )and we excitedly loaded it up on Monday with some of our finds! BUT... the night before my mom got the new kit for my birthday, I impatiently scouted eBay and bought myself a used 33B as well (got it for an amazing price, less than $100). Was thinking I’d resell the used one when the new one arrived, because the Lortone site indicated that there might be a significant delay before delivery. However, they arrived 2 days apart (Lortone shipped within 48 hrs of the order) and now of course I want to keep both unless/until we determine we’re not really into it after all. I mean, at this rate we could designate each of the four barrels for a different stage... We got the Lortone starter kit, and since I anticipate this hobby will be very fun during the continued quarantine, I also ordered additional bulk grits. I still have TONS of questions despite spending a ridiculous amount of time late night in bed reading about this... in about a week we’re going to have to do our first clean! I could kick myself for not taking “before” pictures of our rocks. So far we have the roughs that came with the kit tumbling in two barrels with the kit’s stage 1 grit, and two barrels with Lake Erie rocks that were already pretty smooth from the lake—one barrel of various quartz stones and one barrel of marble or granite (I need to work on rock ID). Anyway, will save additional questions for individual posts/threads! Thank you for having me!

Welcome! You’re going to become addicted quicker than you think!
There are lots of threads here with great information, reading will help you. Don’t hesitate to ask questions. Where did you get your grit from? I’d like to make sure you use good quality grit before starting.
