Thanks for the recipe. I'm going to have to try it. Haven't had a pasty since I moved to AZ. I never have, but it's on my list now. Very similar to a Jamaican meat patty. If any of Y'all have a Jamaican place nearby do check it out! It's addictive jamesp has a favorite Jamaican place in Atlanta, Clifton's Jamaican Cuisine (AKA 'The Fox Hole' he loves to frequent. While I know he loves the food, he also loves to go harrass the people there. His 'sista' and also 'his mamma', bestest cook on the planet.
Right, James?
He can tell you some stories...

Gotta have that Jamaican cuisine rockpickerforever. They just opened a 5th Jamaican food joint within 5 miles of the house ! I recently hired a Jamaican welder that also loves to cook. He has been fixing me some dishes lately. One of them is called 'dirty girl' lol. A mackerel and tomato dish. He sorta put me in a quandary when he asked me if I like to eat dirty girl. He fell out laughing at my reaction. He can tear up some english pronunciation.

Is a pasty anything like a calzone or a Stromboli? Figure we're covering all the delicious food origins here, gotta include Italian . That place looks like a lot of fun!!

Great trip report. That place looks so cool. I would love to see it in person some day. Oh boy do I miss a good pasty. I ate them all the time when I lived in Montana. Butte, Mt is known for pasty shops but Helena has a couple places to buy them too. One of them is a drive up shop in a train car. Delicious especially when you pile on the gravy.

Great place to visit, looks like a lot of fun. Question from West coast where terminology is different: What is a "pastie"? It is a baked pastry with vegetable and or meat filling. Kind of like an Empanada That looks like a cool place! I grew up in the midwest and now live in WA. A pasty shop opened up in my little main street town here so I, of course, had to check it out. I hadn't had one since the 90's. The owner was there at the counter and when I ordered she was like "finally someone knows how to pronounce it without me telling them." We had a good laugh and talked for a while. She had just relocated from Michigan. I'm happy she ended up in my neck of the woods! When people ask me what they are I usually describe it as a pot pie you can hold in your hand and eat.

If they're not burnt on the outside, and frozen inside, they're nothing like the pot pies I've made
