something I always wanted to get into always short on time * space and that other commodity
altho I did just invest in some really fine honing stones a real nice DMT coarse diamond and a hard Arkansas
Haven’t gotten into Japanese water stones yet
in my wham bam ware house job I snuck in that dallasite slab and some various sandpapers
I was sharpening razor knives on the fly --just try to get new razor blade -
we were cutting lots of double thick cardboard boxes monsters they called them gay-lords anyone know where that comes from?
so I strop the edge for a few select co- workers buy me a drink
anyway I've attended quite a few knife maker shows
sharpened and made wood cutting tools for the industry mostly carbide
I hope this winter to start up a small mobile sharpening gig mostly barber shears and upholstery shops just local
anyone have any sharpening needs ya knohs who to call mohstly

mohs The name Gaylord is due to the first bulk bins being manufactured by the original Gaylord Container Company of St. Louis, which was acquired by Crown Zellerbach of San Francisco in 1955.

Do you mean do the forging as well as the stone scales? I bought a couple knife blanks a while back...finished one with Mary Ellen jasper handles. It was a fun project for sure, but I’m certainly no expert. I have another blank on the shelf but haven’t had time to work on it yet, though I do have the stone for the handles. I watch a ton forged in fire though and really want to get a forge one day!

I have made some knife shaped objects, and I know how to find a whole bunch of knifesmiths. Currently my smithing is on hold due to a lack of space and time. the biggest deal with smithing is it isn't a quick hobby, that is to say you if you are lighting a fire you are committing yourself to at least 1 hour of activity. if i don't document anything i can turn a batch of rocks around in 5min. I am sure there are people who only lap for half an hour, and the other thing is if i stop my tumbler and dump out my rocks I can just dump everything into my bucket, rinse my hands and leave.

Don't make any knifes from steel but will occasionally make one from rock. This whopper is made from rainbow obsidian, forged by volcanic activity. The handle is antler from a large white tail deer shed. Sometimes my wife uses it to cut yarn with while we are in the man cave watching TV and she's doing some knitting/crocheting. Blade is 8 1/4"L x 1 7/8"W Total length with handle is 13"
