I hope this is the right sub forum for this question.
I live outside of memphis, tn. We dont really have the awesome rock hunting groups that seem to be traditional (seems that way to me at least). By traditional I mean mountains, natural streams, large rock deposits, etc. We dont even get the glacial deposits from the last ice age due to our southern location.
A couple things I do have at my disposal are the Mississippi river, man made drainage systems, muddy lakes, and a ton of soggy, marshlands. The man made drainage systems seem to be fairly rock free. If they do have rocks, its normally a kind of pea gravel, limestone. Both of which I have in abundance in my driveway lol
My question is...any advice as to where I can find natural rocks in this kind of environment?

try searching rock hounding TN. That produced several sources of good potential. I'd also consider Arkansas sources too.

You might check and see if you have any gem and mineral clubs in the area. I know with all that's going on right now they probably aren't having meetings but they can be a good source of information too.

There are some great flints in Tennessee. A lot of the streams contain good amounts of this stuff. I got some really nice Tennessee flint nodules from eBay one time. Some of them were a beautiful grayish blue in color.

Hello, I’m pasting you a link to all the Gem and Mineral Societies in TN and contact information for each. It’s on our Southeastern Federation of Mineralogy Society. I’m currently their VP. www.amfed.org/sfms/_pdf/2019%20Tennessee.pdfI live in Madison, MS. In my experience, you see rocks around you all your life but it’s not until you SEE the rocks around you that they come to life. Not a whole lot is happening within our clubs lately but I’m still sure they’d love to here from you.
