Imagine if we could build a widget (drone) that weighs about 1 carat, has a two mile range, and makes its own fuel from sun, rain, and flowers. Toss in communication and chain of command in groups of 100,000.
Someone should get an award.

Oh, yeah... DSC_0778_Honeybee swarm by Stephan T., on Flickr Swarm near our house a few years ago. When the local beekeeper came and got it, it more than filled three hive boxes.

Sign me up for your next photography class, please... Thanks for the compliment. I'm mostly self-taught through trial and error. I did take a two hour class once, and have annoyed others by asking lots of questions. That's the beauty of digital, you're just wasting a few electrons instead of money and film. Never mind. What I actually meant to say is, "absolutely, and Fairburns are legal tender in my book."

The technology is not yet there for the "micro" drone referred to here (1 carat).......but, since this video was released, the size of the "drones" have been reduced to less than 5"..........the video shows sizes approx. 10" to 12"....have sustainable power for 2hrs and a range of approx. 5 miles........:
There is a Russian consortium that has designed and successfully tested "dragonfly" sized "drones" with the ability to capture and transfer video quality of 1080p at over 4000' elevation for sustained periods of time lasting over 8hrs.......Yes, they are solar daytime battery energy stored units.........but they are one and done vehicles.........each cost in the neighborhood of $6000.00, but the cost is coming down dramatically due to integrated rare earth and battery cell development......Size is no longer the major hurdle.
