Looks like your off to a good start! Thank you. It's definitely the start of something pretty fascinating to me! I'm liking what I'm seeing!! Especially like the jasper (?) with the yellow. Can't wait to see more. And your post reminded me I need to check my tumblers Thanks! I'm the absolute worst at identification! I definitely know there's some bubble gum agates in here with some...ummm...rocks! Some are prettier than others! LOL I've been checking my vibe three or four times a day...not necessarily because I thought I needed to, but more just to LOOK at what was happening. LOL

You're making great progress! Bubblegums usually take me forever- you have some nice ones in there. 😁

Hi Jason -
I have two TT mod B's and a recommendation. Get a bunch of belts. I break one about every two months because the load in this tumbler is too much for the belt.
I have two bowls for my UV 18. One for prepolish and one for polishing and burnishing.
Another thing I do is to use two circular rubber liners on the top of the B's for better sealing.
I made some liners from heavy plastic sheeting for use under the top of my UV 18. They stick out about 2-3" all around the cover. This keeps slurry from running out which I had problems with.
These little tweaks are inexpensive and keep the slurry where it belongs instead of slopping out on the tumbler and floor.
Let me know how you make out with these great tumblers.
Cheers!

gatorflash1 - I ran across a thread awhile back on here that showed a very inexpensive alternative for the replacement belts. I've got to try and find that one again. I agree. I do need to get some quickly and keep them on hand. Thanks for the reminder. Good idea on the liner as well! OMG - I laughed out loud and had to show that Cheers video to my wife. I miss that show!

I need to get on YouTube and look up Best Normisms...haven't watched it for awhile. Makes me laugh every time! Noise - I know there's been several things posted about this, but the Vibe is FAR louder than the Rotary. I did notice as the slurry builds, the noise level in the Vibe is less than when first loaded. Also, the noise level did appear to go down as the grit level went up (e.g. 120/220 was louder than 500 which was slightly louder than polish). This being said, I had SEVERAL large rocks in this first tumble, and I do believe they "clogged" up the motion of the tumble to a certain degree...at least I believe they impeded movement greater than 5 or 6 smaller rocks equaling the same mass. So, I don't know yet whether or not that larger "impediment" caused more noise due to more energy needed from the Vibe to move that heavier object...if that makes sense...

I just realized I never posted pics of my first batch. I'm happy with the first batch results. Not perfect, but learned a lot...like garbage in and garbage out... which is hammered home a lot here on RTH. I learned what the tumblers will eliminate and what they won't with regards to pitting and/or fractures. I absolutely love that rock I the third pic. I hounded it and it already had that perfect oval shape! The last pic is the biggest rock of the bunch. There's a couple imperfections on the other side, so I may re-tumble that in the future sometime. It's just so big, it takes up a ton of space in the tumblers. (My wife calls that one my Rocky Mountain Oyster rock! Sadly, it does kind of look like one, but I love it! LOL)

You definitely killed it for a first batch!

Thanks so much Eric! I told her. She's sitting here laughing. She grew up on a farm/ranch...so she would know! Although she "claims" she's never had one! LOL

Your batch came out great The prairie jaspers look cool polished up! I'm considering whether to replace my old TV5 with a UV-10 or get the 15lb rotary like you have. Old Trusty is getting cranky but I think he's got some batches left in him. The big rotary appeals to me because it will be much more quiet and need less babysitting....and you know... Big rocks!! Does anyone know if Lortone is still open? I had my eye on the qt66 but the 15lbTT is appealing to me lately.

I don't think I would've been as happy with a smaller rotary if it were the only rotary. I'm also glad I have the UV-18 due to the size of a lot of rocks I'm planning on tumbling. I'm really considering getting an A-R2 which would give me the opportunity to run a couple smaller batches of different materials...then maybe a smaller vibe...and the probably an even larger rotary or two...well, you get the point! LOL

A friend of mine once told me the max number of bicyles a person should have is N+1. Where N is the number you already have. I thinks this applies really well to rock tumblers too!
