You got the rhyolite part right. It looks like mushroom rhyolite to me. If that's what it is, you got an excellent shine on it!

That said, a lot of other rhyolites are marketed as jasper (rainforest, ocean, disaster peak...), and we seem to have pretty loose rules this time around that includes those. I have seen mushroom rhyolite sold as mushroom jasper, so I think it fits in, no problem.

I noticed that when I looked it up to see images that they were being called both too. It does make it rather confusing. I worked really hard to get my shine, thanks for your comment. I finished with a Dynalap Disc with Cerium Oxide. First time I’ve tried it, really liked the results. I use a flat lap (Sapphire faceting machine) for cabbing.

I made a few cabs of Jasper from Australia but eventually decided to go with this little one as it's a local material, we can't get access to the quarry but that doesn't matter as they spread it all over the back roads, it really is horrible stuff for roads as it is mostly fine white dust, but it has these seams of nice solid Jasper, so after the white dust has blown and washed away pieces of this are left behind.
