I finally have something ready. I believe this is Jasper, but not sure where it is from, other than I got it in a parcel from Drocknut. If anyone recognizes it for ID purposes that would be great. If this is not Jasper I can submit something else. I just saw a photo of Birdseye Rhyolite with quartz veins. Now I’m a bit confused. You got the rhyolite part right. It looks like mushroom rhyolite to me. If that's what it is, you got an excellent shine on it! Looks like mushroom rhyolite to me as well. That said, a lot of other rhyolites are marketed as jasper (rainforest, ocean, disaster peak...), and we seem to have pretty loose rules this time around that includes those. I have seen mushroom rhyolite sold as mushroom jasper, so I think it fits in, no problem.

I was only giving an ID. I was not prepared to make a ruling, lol. Totally unbiased, I don't have a horse in this race.

Ha ha. That was entirely my opinion, and I’ll take any flack Thanks rockpickerforever, and Stephen for the ID. I learned something new today. I liked the pattern on this one a lot, and especially wanted to keep the white quartz veins. I like your ruling Stephen, but will go with general consensus if it is acceptable.

I think you believe me to have power. I don't make rulings (maybe if I win a contest, I'll get to be a semi-grand poohbah for the following month's contest). Just expressing my opinion, and what I believe was stated earlier in this thread.

It does make it rather confusing. I worked really hard to get my shine, thanks for your comment. I finished with a Dynalap Disc with Cerium Oxide. First time I’ve tried it, really liked the results. I use a flat lap (Sapphire faceting machine) for cabbing.

Managed to find time to get an entry in! 30mm x 40mm royal imperial jasper. The tough part was deciding to cut up the slab, I did get a few more slabs from the nodule so what the heck right? Wow

The competition is pretty stiff again this month. There are so many talented members, and so many beautiful stones.

Rough Material Preform Finished Cab Side View Dome I actually collected this material near Burro Creek, Arizona. I was told it was Mushroom Jasper but it does seem more like a rhyolite to me. That's a great cab you made.
