Thank you for the ADD. Newbie tumbler located in central valley California. I spend a lot of time in remote locations enjoying my hobbies (camping, dirt bikes, Hang gliding and diving) so I figured I would add rock hounding and tumbling to the list. I have already started collecting local in the dry creek beds. I have found a lot of rock in the Tracy hills. I even made a trip down to AREA 54, it was a bust. I found better material 15 minutes from my door. It could have been I was in the wrong spot ... lol

Welcome from South Dakota! I wasn't sure if you were saying thanks for the "add" or thanks for the "A.D.D."! You've got A LOT of hobbies! I'm not sure if that keeps one out of trouble, or just adds more fuel to the fire! LOL Material location is funny sometimes. The absolute BEST rock I've ever found (so far) was about 15 feet out my back door! I found an amazing Fairburn agate in a load of landscaping river rock I had delivered to the house! LOL

I'm with you on the Area 54 material - I excitedly went there four or five times when it was first 'discovered' and finally realized that I was hauling home crap that had slim to zero lapidary value. Still to this day I never made a single quality cabochon from the material I dragged home from there.

Welcome to the forum! From what I understand the Area 54 location has been leased. We went out to the panoche hills spots that are listed in the gem trails book and you're right while it offered some new scenery we didn't find anything too exciting. We passed through the area 54 location and had a farmer try to what I would describe as "intimidate" us out of the area. Glad we went but it's not someplace I'll be rushing back to.
