I obtained through trading slabbing jobs, a rotary tumbler lacking a barrel. The rollers are spaced at 3" on center, and are about 10.5" long. The rollers are rubber coated, and driven by a variable speed controller and motor both Dayton Mfr. Its a bit complex rating the strength of this motor but one notation is 1/35 - 1/6 hp. I want to get a barrel but would like guidance on how big of a barrel would fit (and or work) on this frame size. I seem to recall that someone suggested barrels could be as much as 25% bigger in diameter than the roller spread. Anyone have a suggestion. Obiviously I'd like to use a barrel able to accommodate the largest rocks. BTW I'm not really a tumbler but do often rough finish and polish with the vibe. So I'm in new territory here.

My Thumler A-R12 barrel (8 1/4" diameter) hangs over the rollers about 1 1/8" on each side with a shaft spacing of just a tiny bit over 6". This would suggest to me that you could run a couple 5" by 5" barrels on those shafts. Or an 8" long 6" PVC barrel?
Very cool tumbler there.

That's a nice rolling frame there. Give some thought to controlling end thrust to keep the barrel or barrels from rubbing the pulley or falling off the outer end.

Just my first thought. Is there any way to add an extension onto that base plate? That would give you some ability to move the non-geared roller away from the geared roller, thus giving you a little greater barrel capacity to from which to choose.
I'm not sure how the two roller mounts are affixed to the base plate, nor if the mounts are connected to each other. If they're not attached to each other, I think this would open up your possibilities for different barrels...

Thanks for those thoughts. I'll look at some restructuring instead of just adding the barrel.
