Does this second one have any areas of translucent "root beer" brown? If so, it's almost certainly a common opal from Oregon.
Just based on these two photos that's how I would ID it.

I dont recall much rootbeer brown areas but could be wrong. first good bit of chunk I had crumbled when cutting it. I've managed to get a few workable pieces out of it and some have a really striking teal blue in it. il post a pic of couple cabs of this material and maybe that will help.

Hey there, oldschoolrocker - there will be some pinpoint voids in the brecciated areas of your opal rough. It takes a great polish, though, so you should get some great cabs out of it. Relatively rare rough, too. We got a small amount of it ten years ago and haven't seen any since.

Heh - we were both typing at the same time. The translucent brown was a small percentage of the rough. It would've just been a good clue.
Here's a pendant Robin did ten years ago. No brown in it, either.

Yep, the finished pieces look a bit different. Nice cabs you got out if it...!
-EDIT- I guess no one else has any similar to this. Or they just haven't seen this thread yet.

they do look a bit different. Thank you! unfortunately the rough was full of fractures and I lost more than I was able to salvage.
