riviste.fupress.net/index.php/subs/article/view/60 Earthquakes break rocks > newly exposed broken Bonds of crystal surfaces react with Water to produce huge amounts of silica gel! The gel caries surrounding materials into the fractures, creating Quartz Veins!

1dave has anyone actually seen and handled silica gel? I'd really like to see it for myself and I wonder if it's anything like water glass.

One of the old Quartz Crystal miners in Arkansas told us that he had found a strange jel/liquid substance in one of the deeper pockets he mined. He claimed it was the left over Quartz-forming substance. I wasn't sure he was accurate with that statement. I asked him how did it stay separate from the clay that normally fills Crystal pockets. He said that the pocket did not have clay in it yet. Not sure what that meant and how the clay enter's into the Pocket or into the crystal formation process. Of course some of the old miners are like old fisherman and the tale of the ones that got away!

Interestingly, Parkfield, which is the “Earthquake Capitol of California,” is also the birthplace of Stone Canyon jasper, indicating an abundance of silica gel.
I’d always heard that, in that region, the San Andreas Fault was lubricated by serpentine and talc, but maybe that’s not the whole story....

Oops again . . . Actually the “Earthquake Capital of the World.” Not according to the town sign. That’s why it’s in quotes. 😁

Please don’t confuse Ellison for a geologist. He apparently believed that all rocks are sedimentary in origin, with no heat involved.
That’s religion, not science. A particularly ignorant, devious, and deceptive brand of religion.

His studies led to understanding the nature and origin of the local intrusive ironstone deposits. Application of the new concepts led to a series of exploration successes and the opening of six new mines resulted in dramatic growth of the company. He was appointed to the board of the parent company in 1969 and, as an Executive Director, was responsible for technical subsidiaries including Geopeko Limited. He directed exploration and mine geological teams who went on to develop further significant Australian resources. By 1975 Geopeko had established an outstanding lead in cost-effective exploration. This resulted in the offer of a series confidential research contracts for CRA Exploration Pty. Limited when John Elliston left Peko in 1984. Publication of research results was deferred but he was funded and facilities were provided to further develop, record, and apply the principles of ore and rock formation resulting from the earlier discoveries. Fourteen published and 65 unpublished scientific papers and reports record the research undertaken for CRA. However, John Elliston’s 2007 book, “The Origin of Rocks and Mineral Deposits - using current physical chemistry of small particle systems”, contains significant results not yet published. The research is not complete until the advanced information in this book is in the public arena on a reasonably accessible world-wide basis. John Elliston published a narrative autobiography for the Geopeko re-union at Parkes. It provides a simple description of the way Geopeko people achieved their record of successful exploration by developing the science and technology to do it. www.amazon.com/Origin-Rocks-Mineral-Deposit-Chemistry/dp/1925501361The Origin of Rocks and Mineral Deposit: Using Current Physical Chemistry of Small Particle Systems by John Elliston (Author) The scientific method seeks to explain natural phenomena using natural laws, verifiable and reproducible observations and measurements that validate logical conclusions. Two outstandingly successful Australian research projects based on correct use of the scientific method have resulted in this interdisciplinary research that introduces significant new knowledge. The application of colloid science in this book has embraced the geological sciences in a coherent and compelling way. In 1998 Professor T. W. Healy led a team of Particulate Fluids Processing Centre researchers at the University of Melbourne. They were successful in adapting an atomic force microscope to measure forces between colloidal particles due to their surface charge.
This substantiates the research of John Elliston's team of exploration geologists and their advisors. From the 1960's they have claimed that natural sediments are immense accumulations of high-energy particles containing colloids (particles 1 to 1,500 nanometers in size). When they are mobilised such as by earthquake shocks, these can achieve a more stable condition by aggregating to close-packed clusters. Heat is generated by chemical reactions when the particle clusters finally crystallise to metamorphic, porphyroidal or granitic rocks. This fundamental research now resolves many long standing problems in the Earth sciences and the new understanding of the way that mineral deposits are formed has been shown to lead to much more efficient and cost effective mineral exploration. Application of these two innovative research achievements will certainly benefit economic development. Carey, 1996, p.26 recognised this new knowledge, "years of intensive world-wide study of porphyroids, orbicules, and rapakivi granites demonstrated how these developed through colloidal processes." This new geological theory "has the same importance to that subject as Darwin's to biology" (Ninham and Nostro, 2010, p. 72).

I was just reading about a new mineral that was discovered. It had unusual properties and blue hue I think it was found in Russia The unusual properties of this mineral could help revolutionize battery life according to the article...

Why promote Elliston and his silly book with more copy and pasting?

Why promote Elliston and his silly book with more copy and pasting? I appreciate your opinion, BUT to my mind (and others) back in the 60's he became aware of a geological process no one else had noticed. What happens to rocks below the boiling point? SiO2 does not easily go into solution - and yet there are times when huge masses did. How and why? John answered that! Earthquakes and water! Earthquakes shatter rocks, breaking silica bonds. IF water is in the area, H2O breaks into H and O2 and attaches to those broken bonds! That is what no one else had noticed! Silicic acid in large amounts explains the previously unexplained. I suppose John will be like Galileo for some time for a few.

Why promote Elliston and his silly book with more copy and pasting? It's what seems new and interesting that gets attention here........
Spent some time researching Mr. John Noel Whitefoord Elliston.........seems he graduated in 1950 from some popular University in Tasmania with a Bachelors in "Science"......no known Chemistry or Geology major or academia other than his affiliation with his own research and publishing accomplishments.......made his money in the mining industry. Got very lucky with a couple of "by chance" explorations and teaming up with some very respected legit chemist and geologists during that process.......His Father was a very well connected politician and advocate of Bio-ecology........the family comes from old blue blood money.......no surprise there...!
Nothing he has personally published is regarded by the "main-stream " scientist in the industry, as new or earth shaking.........just another source of perspective(s) that have been floating around for more than 30yrs........the advent of increased technological resources over that 30yr span, has opened up the eyes of many life long earth science professionals........Elliston is just one of many, who in that field of interest, have published their opinions based on their years of "practical" experience and the knowledge and proven research of others in the field.........nothing more, nothing less....!

My brief look into his genealogy - apparently his great great grandfather was among 220 convicts transported on the Westmoreland, 03 March 1835 convictrecords.com.au/convicts/elliston/john/32125
