stephan - Here's one I finished up the other day that's out of the same batch of rocks as the one you cabbed. Whoa! That’s freaking amazing I had my eye on this preform for awhile before I attempted it...for no other reason than I had so much other material in the queue! I haven't decided yet how I'm going to do the wrap on this one just yet... Wait until I post pictures of the wrap I just did on another one! It's the first time I've attempted the shape I tried on that other one.

That's probably a good thing. I just pulled this out of a box I'm putting together to send to California to take pictures! I totally read this the wrong way and thought you were sending the rock on vacation to take pictures. The sentiment next to the rock only confirmed my initial thought. I hope that rock finds joy in its journey! (And takes lots of pictures, too!)

LOL It would appear I somehow reverted to the writing style of a fifth-grader that day...So no, you didn't read it wrong. I wrote it wrong. The rock did take a permanent vacation and now has residence in sunny California!

I thought I must be doing something wrong if I don’t send my rocks on vacations! No wonder they just sit there all silent.

Made over the weekend: DSC_3600_Crazy lace free-form by Stephan T., on Flickr Made from a slablet that was obtained from jasoninsd . Like most crazy lace, this piece has a lot going on, some of which didn't really reveal itself until I started polishing. The patterns were visible in the raw slablet, but initially looked a lot more subtle -- they just kept getting better and better. The features include: sagenite, tubes, fortifications, speckles, orbs and a pucket of botryoidal hematite. Stay tuned for some others made this past weekend (in a different thread).

Here's a little "hottie." It's Laguna. Wish I had a lot more like this!

Garage Rocker -- those are amazing. That last one especially: moss, tubes, speckles and fortifications all together... with a little purple thrown in, to boot. Thanks for the before & after pics. gemfeller -- nice one. I can definitely see why you wish you had more. Agree 100% jasoninsd -- Thanks! Ha ha, yeah... I've done a little re-prioritizing of the queue sometimes, based on what others posted. Formally known as, "ooh, I've got some of that... let's see where that goes..."

That last one is amazing, Garage Rocker! The first one with that purple center is also pretty good, but the last one is incredible.

Another Flor de Durazno (Crazy?) lace agate cut from a piece I received from jasoninsd: DSC_3886_Flor de Durazno (Crazy) Lace agate cabochon by Stephan T., on Flickr This stuff is HARD! I must have gotten a little tired with this one. I do need to go back and do some minor re-shaping of the top curve. Also challenging to photograph... it really wanted to wash out, so it has a little more post-processing than I usually do. I love the face made by the two orbs and the druzy cave at about 9:00.

I see the face! I will concur on how hard this material is...at times it feels like it's nigh on impenetrable! LOL I see some micro-fractures showed up. I thought this rock was pretty clear of them. I cut out some preforms from this same rock the other day. In a couple I kept that healed fracture line in them, and then I cut out two other preforms avoiding it on another piece...

I think those microfractures are healed as well. I can't catch a fingernail on them, and they didn't seem to catch any grit. I kind of like that seam of hematite. I think I kept it more than not.

Beautiful pictures, Garage Rocker! It’s fun to see the before and afters, as well as the matched sets. Hopefully that last one had a happily ever after.

Thanks! I keep thinking there must be a better than cabochon lapidary use for this boulder, jasoninsd what do you think? I think it would work great as a gift! Beautiful stone

Thanks! I keep thinking there must be a better than cabochon lapidary use for this boulder, jasoninsd what do you think? I'm amazed at some of the boulders over at The Rock Shop that have been hand ground and hand polished. I should try and take some pics of those next time I'm over there. I could see that with this boulder. It would definitely take some time, but I think this one would be an absolute stellar standout being that large...and polished.
