Fine unakite Rob. The unakite you sent me is a pleasure to tumble and a beautiful stone. If memory serves the green ones seemed to polish better than the ones with a high percent red(felspar?). Grinds well to, it has a jade like character. Yes, the green epidote is consistently good. The red/orange feldspar can go either way. Over the years, I've learned to pass up the ones that look speckled like granite and pick up the ones with the colors smeared together more. This was not my find, I did it for someone else. It undercut some in the orangish areas.

Takes fine polish for a bit softer stone. Well, it shapes quick in step 1. Impressive that you were able to put a nice shine on a large but softer rock. Must say, the pinks mixed in with the green make some real pretty material.

Agreed. Thanks to your videos, I have come to appreciate unakite. I've only been hounding for about 4 months or so and have only found a bit of it in the Bayfield - Goderich, Ontario area of Lake Huron (as mentioned in a different thread). Did you find this in Lake Huron? Alpena area? Maybe I need to hunt further north towards Tobermory. Anyway I appreciate your videos. I look forward to the Rocks in a Box clips....and yes I stick around for the slide show at the end . Thanks to you, meMiner and Agate Dad I have been able to cut my cable and enjoy the Rock Network !

I didn't find this rock. I tumbled it for a friend. I think he told me where it came from, but I don't remember. There is a lot of this in Lake Superior in the eastern U.P. I also find some in the Alpena area, although it's not quite as common here. Not uncommon, though. I'll get together with greig and Taylor to decide how much we should bill you per month. I'd say about $50 each should come out to about the same as cable.

I have found quite a bit of unakite at some old Ontario iron mines. The best spot was a Marmora, but they have been closed to anyone collecting for a few years. Look for epidote in the list of minerals known at a site.

Wasn't specifically rock hounding, but didn't really see anything by the lake in town. How do you go about hounding in abandoned mines? I would assume you would still have to ask someone for permission to search there (?)

Looking forward to a bikini clad narrator Rob. You know, someone a bit prettier than you I think you're going to be disappointed, Jim. It's just me and I have a one piece suit.

I hadn't seen this one yet. But I love the bigger rocks, and this one is a beauty!

I don't bother asking at parks or native land because I simply avoid those areas. The easy way to get into good spots is to join a local rock club and go on their field trips. Most of the clubs cooperate, so if they have a trip planned, it gets extended to other clubs. However, this year nobody was setting up field trips due to the virus. Hopefully, things improve by next spring.

Nice and extremely interesting! I'll be on Lake Superior in May. Have never yet found a unakite larger than a golfball. What a monster you have.

I find baseball sized ones quite often in the eastern U.P. I find some pretty good sized ones in Lake Huron too. This was not my find, and I don’t remember where the guy who brought it to me said he found it. Nice rock where ever it came from.

Especially since I had a brief foray into tumbling, I really appreciate your efforts and presentation. Maybe if we had seen a few of your videos, we might not have expected to be done by dinner! Thanks for the detailed explanations.

That was a great video Rob! The video will be an inspiration to me with my new 6lbs barrels. Woot! Big rock tumbles incoming I'm glad you showed the pre shaping too. I toyed with doing that prior to trying a bigger rock.
