I’m new to tumbling and polishing. I have two young granddaughters (ages 2 and 4) who love to collect rocks, especially from Lakes Michigan and Superior. Last summer the oldest asked me to make their pretty rocks shiny and smooth, grampa overheard our conversation and he ordered us a Lot-o-tumbler. Now I’m trying to get this mastered! Have had a few beauties and disappointments.

Hey Jen, welcome to the forum from South Dakota! If you're around the Great Lakes area, you're going to have an "endless" supply of tumbling rough! Give grandpa a pat on the back for eavesdropping!

Welcome from Maryland. I retired in 2018 the same year my grandson “Jasper” was born. I too am new to all of this and would like to start a Jasper collection in 2021 for him. Hope to read more from you in the future...Rocket

Hello and welcome from Virginia.
I'm no expert and I'm sure many will chime in, but the Lot-O is best for polishing and not rounding or smoothing. You'll need a rotary, like a Lortone, to do the first stages. The Lot-O shines like no one's business, though.

Welcome from Michigan. Good advice above, use a rotary until polish stage. Lot-O makes a great machine for polish, but it will not shape for you.

Welcome from the Desert Southwest! What a neat story! Thank you for sharing. Wow, how great it must be to have two active jr rockhounds with all of that interest and energy scouring around for new gemstones!
