I went to a rough rock store today (Nature's Treasures in Austin) and purchased a few pieces for tumbling. There is one I can't identify and I don't remember selecting it. I'm attaching the photo as well as receipt from the rock place in case that helps. I was short on the minimum weight requirement for some of the rock types so the salesguy ran back and grabbed extras to fill out the minimum requirement. I think he may have grabbed something I didn't select. The photo is with the stone wetted. Thanks for any input! I appreciate this forum very much as I get into the hobby.

I'm probably way off on this, but it looks like Birds Eye Jasper or Birds Eye Rhyolite to me. I've seen it called both names. Just know this information is from another "newbie"...so I'll be curious what the "experienced" have to say.

Thank you -- it makes sense because I did purchase sea jasper. Now I'll view ALL the Google images on sea jasper to better familiarize myself with it!

cant help with ID but Natures Treasures sure are proud of their rocks! I took a cpl hour detour this summer to stop by there since rock shops are few and far between around here and was quite disappointed to find their outrageous prices on rough rock by the lb. nice selection tho.

You are right, Cave Dweller, the price per pound is steep. However I did get a Lortone for about 20% less than I could find it anywhere else.

I like the rough rock yard at Natures Treasures, almost too hot to go in the sumner when I was working down there. You can hand select which makes the prices a little more palatable. Can't really help with the ID, no idea what sea jasper looks like.

Agreed, I definitely agree that it is most likely sea/ocean jasper from the original played out mine, lots of variety in that stuff and plenty of drusy. I would cab it rather than tumble, though. Hate to ruin drusy.

Agreed, I also missed the agate around the orbs at the top. How hard is the white material in the center? How hard is the red material in the center (not the pheoncrysts)?
